    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, electron transport in quantum and ballistic devices was studied. The devices studied here were quantum wires, planar quantum dots, ballistic rectifiers, artificial functional materials, and three-terminal ballistic junctions.     Sammanfattning : The luminescence from single quantum dots has been studied. Single dot photoluminescence was studied under continuous as well as under pulsed excitation. Time-resolved studies revealed fast relaxations in quantum dots. The time resolved measurements were fitted with a set of rate equations. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on three different projects: 1) the epitaxial growth of nanowires using chemical beam epitaxy, 2) the study of electron transport through quantum dots and multiple quantum dots in nanowires at low temperature, and 3) the development of wrap gated nanowire field effect transistors.
