  1. 1. Effects of dissolved humic matter on phytoplankton

    Författare :Jessica von Einem; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phytoplankton; PAR; DOC; Water colour; production;

    Sammanfattning : Water colour is currently increasing in thousands of lakes in the northern hemisphere due to an increased input of terrestrial dissolved organic carbon (DOC), and more specifically coloured disscolved humic matter (DHM). I studied how water colour affects the light climate in the epilimnion and, as a consequence, phytoplankton biomass, species composition and production in lakes in southern Sweden. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Ecological implications of the production of toxic substances by fish killing phytoplankton species grown under variable N:P-ratios

    Författare :Niclas Johansson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mixotrophy; grazing; allelopathic interactions; allelopathy; algae; phytoplankton; nutrient limitation; toxicity; Toxic haptophytes; fishkilling phytoplankton; Hydrobiology; marine biology; aquatic ecology; limnology; Marinbiologi; limnologi; akvatisk ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : The influence of different nutrient conditions on the production of toxins was studied in certain fishkilling haptophytes (e.g. Prymnesium parvum and Chrysochromulina polylepis). LÄS MER

  3. 3. Grazer-induced responses in marine phytoplankton

    Författare :Johanna Bergkvist; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phytoplankton; defence; dinoflagellate; diatoms; paralytic shellfish toxins; polyunsaturated aldehydes; chain formation;

    Sammanfattning : Phytoplankton are the most important primary producers in the world’s oceans, yet little is known of how they avoid the constant threats from the pelagic grazers. From land it is well known that plants defend themselves by having thorns or producing compounds unpalatable to grazers. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The role of freshwater phytoplankton in the global carbon cycle

    Författare :Fabian Engel; Gesa A. Weyhenmeyer; Don Pierson; Katrin Attermeyer; John A. Downing; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phytoplankton; carbon dioxide; lake; river; global limnology; spatial scale; carbon budget;

    Sammanfattning : Water flowing through the landscape transports chemical substances including carbon. Along the way from upland soils to the ocean, carbon is transformed from organic carbon into inorganic carbon and vice versa. One such carbon transformation process is the uptake of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the water phase by phytoplankton. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Effects of inorganic nitrogen and organic carbon on pelagic food webs in boreal lakes

    Författare :Anne Deininger; Ann-Kristin Bergström; Jan Karlsson; Antonia Liess; Carolyn L. Faithfull; John A. Downing; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; autochthony; basal production; boreal; global change; dissolved organic carbon; food web efficiency; N deposition; phytoplankton; seston stoichiometry; whole lake enrichment; zooplankton; limnologi; Limnology;

    Sammanfattning : Anthropogenic activities are increasing inorganic nitrogen (N) loadings to lakes in the northern hemisphere. In many boreal lakes phytoplankton are N limited, wherefore enhanced N input may affect the productivity of pelagic food webs. LÄS MER
