16. Lipidic Cubic Phase Microcrystallization and its Application in Serial Crystallography
Sammanfattning : Every living organism contain a cell membrane which is an important cell structure with a vast variety of different functions such as cell signaling, transportation and energy production. One of the most important functions is to produce energy for the cell to thrive. LÄS MER
17. Kinematics of the heart : strain and strain-rate using time-resolved three-dimensional phase contrast MRI
Sammanfattning : During the cardiac cycle, the myocardium (heart muscle) undergoes large elastic deformations as a consequence of the active muscle contraction along the muscle :fibers and their relaxation, respectively. A four-dimensional (4D) description (three spatial dimensions + time) of the kinematics of the myocardium would bring increased understanding of the mechanical properties of the heart and may be of interest in assessing regional myocardial function. 18. Time-resolved plasmonics in designed nanostructures
Sammanfattning : A metal nanoparticle can be considered as consisting of a base of positive ion cores and a sea of free electrons. When the free electrons are displaced, for example, by an incident electric field, a restoring force acts on the electrons. The electrons may then oscillate back and forth until equilibrium is reached. LÄS MER
19. Investigations of Transition Metal Systems : Angle-Resolved Photoelectron Spectroscopy at Low and High Energy
Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis aims at achieving an increased understanding of the electronic structure of materials whose properties are to a large extent governed by transition metals. All studies are based on data from angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES) employed on the valence band of the studied systems. LÄS MER
20. Acoustic, Thermal and Non-thermal Dynamics in Condensed Matter Studied by Time-Resolved X-ray Diffraction
Sammanfattning : The method of using short laser and X-ray pulses to investigate dynamics in materials (pump-probe) has been used for several decades. This thesis presents work that was carried out using these sources of light to reveal acoustic, thermal and non-thermal dynamics. LÄS MER
