  1. 1. Perilipin expression in the islets of Langerhans and Surface expression in the baculovirus/insect cell system

    Författare :Jörgen Borg; Molekylär endokrinologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biology; Biologi; lipotoxicity; beta-cell; perilipin; amino-terminal anchor; Baculovirus; surface display;

    Sammanfattning : Surface display in insect cells: Systems available for surface display that utilize bacterial phages are insufficient for displaying a number of eukaryotic proteins. By instead presenting proteins on the surface of eukaryotic cells or virus, some of these problems might be overcome. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Intracellular lipids and inflammatory activity in macrophage foam cells

    Författare :Jenny Persson; Kardiovaskulär forskning - immunitet och ateroskleros; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Cardiovascular system; lipid droplet; cytokine; inflammation; adipophilin; perilipin; atherosclerosis; Macrophage; foam cell;

    Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is characterized by lipid accumulation and inflammation in arteries. The disease starts early in life with migration of monocytes into the arterial wall where they engulf entrapped lipoproteins and become macrophage foam cell. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Regulation of glycerol efflux in adipocytes. Structural and functional studies of the glycerol channel aquaporin 7

    Författare :Sofia de Mare; Medicinsk strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glycerol : metabolism; Lipolysis; X-ray Crystallography; Perilipin 1; Aquaglyceroporin; Aquaporin 7; Adipocytes metabolism; Glycerol : metabolism; adipocyte metabolism; X-ray crystallography; Aquaglyceroporin; Aquaporin 7; Perilipin 1; Lipolysis;

    Sammanfattning : Glycerol levels in adipocytes depend on the lipolysis, the hydrolysis of triglycerides into glycerol and free fatty acids, and the efflux of glycerol across the plasma membrane through glycerol channels. The aims of this work were to investigate how glycerol levels are regulated on a molecular level by PLIN1, a major lipid droplet-associated protein and a key regulator of the lipolysis by scaffolding for lipolytic proteins on the lipid droplet. 4. 4. Studies on fat cell function in human obesity and insulin resistance

    Författare :Patrik Löfgren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Fat cell; lipolysis; lipogenesis; leptin; obesity; perilipin; polymorphism; post-obese; TNF-alpha; weightreduction.;

    Sammanfattning : Enlarged fat cells, due to excess tri-glyceride (TG) stores with increased basal lipolysis (TG breakdown) and blunted action of the major regulatory hormones of fat cell metabolism (catecholamines and insulin) are hallmarks of common obesity in humans. It is, however, not known whether these aberrations are caused by obesity per se or is a consequence of obesity. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Expanding role of caveolae in control of adipocyte metabolism : proteomics of caveolae

    Författare :Nabila Aboulaich; Peter Strålfors; Alexander Vener; Hans Jörnvall; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Diabetes; Insulin signalling; Fatty acid metabolism; Proteomics; Mass spectrometry; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The primary function of adipose tissue is to store energy in the form of triacylglycerol, which is hydrolyzed to fatty acids to supply other tissues with energy. While insulin promotes the storage of triacylglycerol, catecholamines stimulate its hydrolysis. LÄS MER
