  1. 1. An epidemiological perspective on heart and lung weight in cardiac and intoxication deaths

    Författare :Torfinn Beer; Carl Johan Wingren; Anders Eriksson; Britt-Marie Stålnacke; Kimberly Molina; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; heart weight; lung weight; organ weight; autopsy; forensic pathology; Bayesian analysis; cardiac hypertrophy; fatal intoxication; Forensic Medicine; rättsmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : The main purpose of a medico-legal autopsy is to determine the cause and manner of death. A forensic pathologist makes assessments of this using several sources of information, one of which is the discrepancy between measured organ weight and reference values. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Aetiologies and Epidemiology of Subdural Haematoma in Infancy

    Författare :Jacob Andersson; Ingemar Thiblin; Håkan Sandler; Andreas Buettner; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Abusive Head Trauma; Shaken Baby Syndrome; Subdural Haematoma; External hydrocephalus; Rättsmedicin; Forensic Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : According to scientific studies, subdural haematoma (SDH) in combination with retinal haemorrhage and encephalopathy (usually denoted as the triad) during infancy is highly specific for abusive head trauma/shaken baby syndrome, if a fall from over one meter, a traffic accident and certain medical conditions have been excluded. Other studies have challenged this notion since there are witnessed falls from less than one meter which has caused acute SDH, birth-related SDH which have been confirmed to develop into chronic SDH, and external hydrocephalus that can be complicated by a spontaneous SDH or an SDH from minor trauma. 3. 3. Evaluation of New Technologies for Forensic DNA Analysis

    Författare :Anna-Maria Divne; Marie Allen; Joakim Lundeberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; STR; SNP; SIDS; mtDNA; HVI HVII SSOP linear array; minisequencing; tag arrays; Pyrosequencing; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : DNA samples from crime scenes or mass disasters are often limited and degraded which limits the possibility of successful traditional STR analysis. Moreover, there is a need to decrease the turnaround time in criminal investigations. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Drug-related morbidity and mortality : Pharmacoepidemiological aspects

    Författare :Anna K. Jönsson; Staffan Hägg; Johan Ahlner; Henrik Druid; Jörg Mörland; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Adverse drug reactions; pharmacoepidemiology; antipsychotics; venous; thromboembolism; warfarin; haemorrhage; intoxication; medico-legal autopsies; mortality; Läkemedelsbiverkningar; farmakoepidemiologi; antipsykotika; venös tromboembolism; warfarin; blödning; intoxikation; rättsmedicinska obduktioner; fatal; Clinical pharmacology; Klinisk farmakologi;

    Sammanfattning : Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) constitute a significant health problem with consequences for the patient as well as for society. Suspected ADRs have been reported to occur in about 2-14% of hospitalised patients. In about 5% of deceased hospitalised patients suspected ADRs may have caused or contributed to the fatal outcome. 5. 5. A multivariate approach to the interpretation of patterns in homicidal and suicidal sharp force fatalities

    Författare :Thore Karlsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Forensic medicine; homicide; suicide; Multivariate statistical analysis; PCA; PLS-DA; trauma pathology; sharp injury.;

    Sammanfattning : Sharp force injury is in Sweden as in many other European countries the leading cause of homicidal deaths. Sharp force suicide, constitutes almost as many fatalities and sometimes a difficult differential diagnosis. An objective of this thesis is to identify and quantify variables indicating suicide or homicide. LÄS MER
