  1. 1. Protection and treatment of hypothermia in prehospital trauma care : with emphasis on active warming

    Författare :Peter Lundgren; Ulf Björnstig; Peter Naredi; Tore Vikström; Anne Guttormsen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hypothermia; kirurgi; Surgery;

    Sammanfattning : Background: In prehospital trauma care active warming is recommended to aid in protection from further cooling. However, scientific evidence of the effectiveness of active warming in a clinical setting is scarce. Also, evaluating the effectiveness of active warming, especially in harsh ambient conditions, by objective measures, is difficult. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Protection against cold in prehospital trauma care

    Författare :Otto Henriksson; Ulf Björnstig; Tore Vikström; Peter Naredi; Hannu Rintamäki; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hypothermia; prehospital trauma care; emergency medical services; passive warming; thermal insulation; heat loss; body temperature regulation; kirurgi; Surgery;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Protection against cold is vitally important in prehospital trauma care to reduce heat loss and prevent body core cooling. Objectives: Evaluate the effect on cold stress and thermoregulation in volunteer subjects byutilising additional insulation on a spineboard (I). LÄS MER

  3. 3. Impact of climate warming on Arctic plant diversity: phylogenetic diversity unravels opposing shrub responses in a warming tundra

    Författare :Ruud Scharn; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arctic; Oroarctic; Tundra; long-term warming; soil moisture; vegetation change; shrubification; biodiversity; phylogenetic diversity; plant community structure;

    Sammanfattning : The Arctic biome is at significant risk, with recent observations suggesting that climate change is warming the Arctic nearly four times faster than the global average. Last decade, evidence from experimental warming studies and observations of ambient warming over time shows how increasing air temperature in the Arctic has led to changes to arctic vegetation, and encroachment of trees and shrubs into the tundra. 4. 4. Validation and time series analysis of global stratospheric data sets

    Författare :Ashley Jones; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; OSIRIS; MIPAS; remote sensing; data assimilation; Trend; stratosphere; ozone; linear regression; Odin; validation;

    Sammanfattning : The depletion of ozone from the stratosphere and the impact of global warming have been identified as phenomena caused as a result of anthropogenic activity. Scientists are thus trying to find quicker and more reliable ways to analyse these environmental problems. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Snow particle size investigations using digital image analysis - implications for ground observations and remote sensing of snow

    Författare :Susanne Ingvander; Peter Peter Jansson; Matti Matti Leppäranta; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; snow; remote sensing; particle size; Antarctica; in-situ sampling; seasonal snow; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : During the past century climate warming has caused rapid changes in the Cryosphere. This has increased the need to accurately monitor rates of change in snow and ice in remote or sparsely populated areas where environmental observing capacity is limited. Monitoring snow cover requires understanding of the snow pack and the snow surface attributes. LÄS MER
