    Sammanfattning : This dissertation is devoted to the study of who used the formal channels of interaction in the early modern era and why. It examines the full range of the political conversation in early modern Sweden, as seen in the supplications to the Diet in the Age of Liberty (1719–1772), and more specifically the supplications submitted to the parliamentary committee tasked with handling them, the Screening Deputation.     Sammanfattning : The present study is focused on the female parliamentary members as agents: those who forced their way through the power structures, those who were elected to political commissions of trust, and those who managed to pursue political issues in the maledominated environment. The overall aim of the study has been to investigate the roots of the female parliamentary members’ political actions and their ability to act strategically and purposfully in order to obtain power in the Swedish bicameral Riksdag.     Sammanfattning : The aim of this dissertation is to analyse women’s political representation in the Swedish parliament 1970-2002, a period during which the share of women parliamentarians increased from 14 to 45 percent, and to assess changes in party rules and party norms in terms of regulative and discursive continuity and change. Inspired by Carol Lee Bacchi’s “What’s the Problem? Approach,” with its focus on the construction of political problems rather than “the problem” as such, this dissertation studies how Swedish political parties have formulated the problem of women’s exclusion from parliamentary politics, what causes of women’s under representation they have identified and what solutions they have proposed.
