6. Development of the gastrointestinal tract in young mammals : Effects of enteral provocation with protease or phytohaemagglutinin in neonatal rats
Sammanfattning : The rat, as an altritial species, is born with an immature gastrointestinal tract and intestinal barrier function, which is highly absorptive to milk-borne bioactive molecules that can pass undigested and reach the general circulation of the suckling newborn. This passage occurs by the neonatal-Fc-receptor (FcRn) binding and trancytosis of immunoglobulin G in the proximal small intestine (SI) and by the highly endocytic vacuolated enterocytes non-selectively in the distal SI. 7. FGFs and Wnts in pancreatic growth and β-cell function
Sammanfattning : Mesenchymal-epithelial interactions are pivotal for proper pancreatic growth and development. The pancreatic progenitor cells present in the early pancreatic anlagen proliferate and eventually give rise to all pancreatic cell types. LÄS MER
8. Induced Growth and Precocious Maturation of the Digestive System in Suckling Rats and Pigs after Exposure to Red Kidney Bean Lectin
Sammanfattning : The timing of the postnatal development of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract in mammals is influenced by dietary and hormonal factors. It was hypothesized that accelerated GI cell turnover during maturation would result in a precoucios conversion to more mature digestive functions. LÄS MER
9. Regulation of the exocrine pancreas in growing pigs, with special emphasis on entero-pancreatic reflexes
Sammanfattning : The regulation of the exocrine pancreas has been under thorough investigation for many decades. In rats, cholecystokinin (CCK) is considered to be the major gut hormone stimulating the pancreas to releasing the digestive enzymes. LÄS MER
10. Molecular and cellular mechanisms in the development of IDDM in non-obese diabetic mice
Sammanfattning : Insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) is a disease caused by autoimmune destruction of the insulin producing b cells in the pancreas. The leukocytic infiltration into the b cell islets preceding disease is called insulitis. LÄS MER
