  1. 1. Membrane Induced Structure in Transmembrane Signaling Proteins and Peptides : Peptide–Lipid Interactions Studied by Spectroscopic Methods

    Författare :Sofia E. Unnerståle; Lena Mäler; Jason Schnell; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; peptide-lipid interaction; paddle domain; voltage gating; voltage sensor domain; micelle; phospholipid bicelle; solution structure; HAMP domain; nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy; circular dichroism spectroscopy; nonspecific interaction; Biophysics; biofysik;

    Sammanfattning : Biological membranes, defining the boundary of cells and eukaryotic organelles, are mainly composed of lipids and membrane proteins. Interactions between these lipids and proteins are needed to preserve the tight seal of the membrane, but also to induce structure for proper function in many membrane proteins. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Structural and functional studies of biomolecules with NMR and CD spectroscopy

    Författare :Evangelos Papadopoulos; Astrid Gräslund; Göran Karlsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NMR; protein structure; nouse Doppel; HTH; C-repressor; potassium channel; Biophysics; Biofysik; Biophysics; biofysik;

    Sammanfattning : Experimentally derived biomolecular structures were determined by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR). The properties of selected peptides and proteins in solution and in membrane mimicking micelles were observed by circular Dichroism (CD), mass spectrometry (MS), and other spectroscopic techniques. 3. 3. Molecular aspects on voltage-sensor movement

    Författare :Amir Broomand; Fredrik Elinder; Guiscard Seebohm; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Potassium channels; voltage-gated; chemistry; metabolism; physiology; patch-clamp techniques; oocytes; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Voltage-gated ion channels are fundamental for electrical signaling in living cells. They are composed of four subunits, each holding six transmembrane helices, S1-S6. Each subunit contains a voltage-sensor domain, S1-S4, and a pore domain, S5-S6. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Biophysical studies of membrane associated peptides

    Författare :Jesper Lind; Astrid Gräslund; Lena Mäler; Christian Griesinger; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NMR; spectroscopy; membrane interaction; bicelles; Chemistry; Kemi; Biophysics; biofysik;

    Sammanfattning : A large part of the processes in living organisms involves proteins acting in a biological membrane. Biophysical studies on isolated model systems can give important understandings of the complicated biological mechanisms in the membrane. In this thesis peptide membrane interaction mechanisms are studied in several different systems. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Structure and Dynamics of Membrane Associated Peptides

    Författare :Henrik Biverståhl; Lena Mäler; Charles R. Sanders; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biophysics; Biofysik; Biophysics; biofysik;

    Sammanfattning : The peptide-membrane interaction is a key element for many biological functions, from cell signaling to cell internalization. In this thesis the peptide-membrane interaction of six different peptides have been studied with respect to their structure, membrane location and dynamics with spectroscopic methods. LÄS MER
