  1. 1. p38 MAPK Signalling in Endothelial Apoptosis

    Författare :Simone Grethe; Malmö Experimentell patologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Naturvetenskap; Natural science; PP2A; Bad; Bcl-xL; doxorubicin; TNF; p38 MAPK; Apoptosis; endothelial cells;

    Sammanfattning : Endothelial apoptosis plays an important role in atherosclerosis, and a direct proapoptotic effect of chemotherapeutics on the tumour vasculature, emphasizes the great potency of antiangiogenic therapy in the treatment of cancer. We investigated signalling pathways in endothelial apoptosis induced by the inflammatory cytokine tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNF), the main target of which is the endothelium, and by the anticancer drug doxorubicin. Sammanfattning : A balanced tear film is essential for a healthy ocular surface. Insufficient tear production may result in dry eye, a common disorder in the elderly population. Dry eye causes significant discomfort in the patients and may lead to visual impairment and ocular infections. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Design and Synthesis of Chalcone and Chromone Derivatives as Novel Anticancer Agents

    Författare :Christine Dyrager; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chalcones; Chromones; Fluorescence; Fluorophore; Cellular imaging; Anticancer; Tubulin; Microtubule; Kinase inhibitors; p38; MEK1; Palladium-mediated reactions; Molecular modeling; Structure-Activity Relationships.;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis comprises the design and synthesis of chalcone and chromone derivatives and their use in various biological applications, particularly as anticancer agents (targeting proteins associated with cancer pathogenesis) and as potential fluorophores for live-cell imaging. Conveniently, all structures presented were synthesized from commercially available 2 ́-hydroxyacetophenones. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Protein expression and modifications in denervated atrophic and hypertrophic skeletal muscle

    Författare :Kim Evertsson; Sven Tågerud; Håkan Westerblad; Linnéuniversitetet; []

    Sammanfattning : Skeletal muscle comprises about 45% of the total body weight. It is the largest tissue in the body, vital for maintaining posture, produce locomotion, breathing but also functions as a large reservoir of proteins. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Cellular interactions of HAMLET and their role in cell death

    Författare :Maria Trulsson; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; HAMLET; alpha-lactalbumin; cancer; cell death; ion channels; p38; cell detachment; alpha-actinin; endocytosis; macropinocytosis; c-Myc; glycolysis;

    Sammanfattning : HAMLET is a protein-lipid complex that selectively kills tumor cells. In this thesis, we identified new mechanisms, whereby HAMLET initiates and executes tumor cell death. HAMLET targets several cellular compartments ranging from the plasma membrane to the nucleus. LÄS MER
