  1. 1. Assessment of Aerobic Capacity A Novel Rating Scale and Further Development of an Exercise Test including Analysis of Gas Exchange

    Författare :Anita Wisén; Människan i rörelse: hälsa och rehabilitering; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; kinesitherapy; revalidation; rehabilitation; Rehabilitering medicinsk och social ; Physical medicine; Time constant of V O2; Cycle ergometer; Perceived Capacity; Perceived exertion; Heart rate; Oxygen uptake; Reference values; Oxygen kinetics; Repeatability; Thresholds;

    Sammanfattning : Different methods are proposed to assess the aerobic capacity. A novel scale, rating of perceived capacity (RPC) based on metabolic equivalents (METs) from 1 to 20, is presented. Selected MET values are linked to physical activities. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The significance of mitochondrial respiratory function in regulating oxygen uptake and performance in humans

    Författare :Daniele A. Cardinale; Filip J Larsen; David Bishop; Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mitochondria; OXPHOS; p50mito; mitochondrial oxygen affinity; oxygen extraction; sex difference; hyperoxia; training; muscle metabolism; performance; HIIT; Medicin Teknik; Medicine Technology;

    Sammanfattning : The mitochondrion is one of the most fascinating organelles of our cells which has kept and keeps researchers busy in studying its origin, the complex morphology, the numerous functions, the rapid adaptations to a variety of stimuli and its role in health and disease. Exercise challenges cellular homeostasis and skeletal muscle mitochondria greatly adapt to repeated bouts of exercise by increasing mitochondrial respiratory function and content to match energy requirements and to better sustain future perturbations induced by muscle contractions. 3. 3. The influence of abdominal surgery on energy expenditure and working capacity

    Författare :Margareta Öhrström; Människan i rörelse: hälsa och rehabilitering; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; maximum oxygen uptake; chemotherapy; walking; Energy expenditure; treatment outcome;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this work was to study the influence of surgery on energy expenditure (EE) during working capacity measurements and during walking. In the first study the aim was to investigate whether two different devices were sensitive enough to reveal differences in energy expenditure during treadmill walking, and if the measurements were reproducible. 4. 4. Physical Exercise in Cystic Fibrosis -studies on muscle strength, oxygen uptake and lung function in young adult patients

    Författare :Margareta E Sahlberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Lung function; muscle strength; exercise capacity; endurance; resistance training;

    Sammanfattning : Muscular strength, lung function and exercise capacity are internationally reported to be markedly impaired in adult patients with cystic fibrosis (CF). Since 20 years physical exercise is one important part in the treatment of patients with CF in Sweden. Handgrip strength is reported to relate to nutrition and activity of daily living. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Cardiopulmonary Function in Healthy Individuals and in Patients After Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation

    Författare :Margareta Genberg; Andrei Malinovschi; Eva Nylander; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; hematopoietic stem cell transplantation; echocardiography; cardiopulmonary execise testing; stress testing; onchology; childhood leukemia; healthy adults; breathing reserve; oxygen uptake; Clinical Physiology; Klinisk fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET) is the gold standard of clinical exercise tests, combining conventional stress testing with measurement of oxygen uptake and carbon dioxide production. In order to interpret CPET findings, adequate reference values are needed. Currently, no Swedish reference values exist. LÄS MER
