  1. 6. Conditional and non-conditional reward-related responses to alcohol. Nicotinic mechanisms

    Författare :Elin Löf; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ethanol; nicotine; ventral tegmental area; nucleus accumbens; dopamine; nicotinic acetylcholine receptor; gamma-amino-butyric acid receptor A; conditioned reinforcement; in vivo microdialysis; rat;

    Sammanfattning : The mesolimbic dopamine system is believed to mediate the positive reinforcing and rewarding effects of addictive drugs by increasing dopamine levels in its terminal area, the nucleus accumbens (nAc). Nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) within this system appear important for the pharmacological actions of both alcohol and nicotine, which may explain the frequent co-abuse of these two drugs. 2. 7. Nicotine sensitization and loss of inhibitory control. Role of serotonin

    Författare :Peter Olausson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nicotine; Amphetamine; Locomotor activity; Inhibitory control; Dopamine; Serotonin; Sensitization; Nucleus accumbens; Elevated plus-maze;

    Sammanfattning : Drug dependence is a devastating disorder present in all parts of the world. It is manifested by craving and a general loss of control over the drug intake and the life situation, ultimately leading to compulsive use of the addictive drug at the expense of normal behavioral patterns. 3. 8. Mechanism of action of antipsychotic drugs : focus on the nucleus accumbens and the prefronta cortex : an experimental study

    Författare :Monica M Marcus; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Schizophrenia; antipsychotic drug; nucleus accumbens shell; nucleus accumbens core; prefrontal cortex; dopamine; 5-11T2A receptor; alpha1 adrenoceptor; C12 adrenoceptor; glutamate; nicotine.;

    Sammanfattning : Antipsychotic drugs have been classified as typical or atypical. To achieve an effective antipsychotic effect with typical antipsychotic drugs, e.g. haloperidol, a dopamine D2 receptor blockade of about 70% seems necessary. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : The Basal Ganglia consist of a number of different nuclei that form a diverse circuitry of GABAergic, dopaminergic and glutamatergic neurons. This complex network is further organized in subcircuits that govern limbic and motor functions in humans and other vertebrates. LÄS MER
