1. Biological Insights from Single-Particle Tracking in Living Cells
Sammanfattning : Single-particle tracking is a technique that allows for quantitative analysis of the localization and movement of particles. In this technique, trajectories are constructed by determining and connecting the positions of individual particles from consecutive images. LÄS MER
2. Hypothermia and radiation. Effects on DNA, chromatin and cellular survival
Sammanfattning : The effect of ionising radiation on cells can be modulated by several physico-chemical factors. The aim of this study was to investigate if hypothermic (sub-physiological) temperatures (2°C-28°C) may influence the effect of X-rays on cellular damage in human normal fibroblasts and in a human breast adenocarcinoma cell line, MCF-7. 3. Molecular mechanisms of mammalian mitochondrial DNA replication and transcription
Sammanfattning : Mitochondria are cytoplasmic organelles in eukaryotic cells, mainly devoted to the synthesis of ATP, through the Oxydative Phospshorylation System (OXPHOS). The organelle has its own genome, the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) that encodes for all the RNA components of the mitochondrial translation apparatus (two rRNAs and 22 tRNAs) and for 13 subunits of the OXPHOS complexes. 4. Cell cycle analysis of archaea
Sammanfattning : In my thesis, the cell cycle analysis of archaea and hyperthermophilic organisms is presented for the first time. Crenarchaea from the genus Sulfolobus were used as a model system. Plow cytometry and light microscopy were applied to investigate the timing and coordination of different cell cycle events. LÄS MER
5. The role of chromatin in the induction and repair of DNA damage
Sammanfattning : The role of chromatin in the induction and repair of DNA damage has a dual nature. The constituent proteins of chromatin protect the DNA against the induction of DNAdamage, while at the same time they reduce the accessibility of DNA to repair enzymes. LÄS MER
