  1. 11. Applications of Gamma Ray Spectroscopy of Spent Nuclear Fuel for Safeguards and Encapsulation

    Författare :Christofer Willman; Ane Håkansson; Henrik Nylén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Nuclear physics; gamma radiation; spectroscopy; spent nuclear fuel; safeguards; HRGS; MOX; Kärnfysik;

    Sammanfattning : Nuclear energy is currently one of the world’s main sources of electricity. Closely connected to the use of nuclear energy are important issues such as the nonproliferation of fissile material that may potentially used in nuclear weapons (safeguards), and the management of the highly radioactive nuclear waste. 2. 12. Approaching well-founded comprehensive nuclear data uncertainties : Fitting imperfect models to imperfect data

    Författare :Petter Helgesson; Henrik Sjöstrand; Helmut Leeb; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Evaluated nuclear data; uncertainty propagation; uncertainty quantification; model defects; Gaussian processes; TALYS; TENDL; covariances.; Fysik med inriktning mot tillämpad kärnfysik; Physics with specialization in Applied Nuclear Physics;

    Sammanfattning : Nuclear physics has a wide range of applications; e.g., low-carbon energy production, medical treatments, and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons. Nuclear data (ND) constitute necessary input to computations needed within all these applications. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Methods of Measuring Radioactivity in the Environment

    Författare :Mats Isaksson; Kärnfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; radioactivity; soil sampling; depth distribution; nuclear weapons fallout; Chernobyl; sewage sludge; deposition; Ekologi; Fysicumarkivet A:1997:Isaksson; Ecology; Kärnfysik; Nuclear physics; Cs-137;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis a variety of sampling methods have been utilised to assess the amount of deposited activity, mainly of Cs-137, from the Chernobyl accident and from the nuclear weapons tests. Starting with the Chernobyl accident in 1986 sampling of air and rain was used to determine the composition and amount of radioactive debris from this accident, brought to southern Sweden by the weather systems. 4. 14. Bureaucratic politics and weapons acquisition : the case of the MX ICBM program : (in two volumes)

    Författare :Håkan Karlsson; Bertel Heurlin; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Försvarspolitik; Förenta staterna; statsvetenskap; Political Science;

    Sammanfattning : The dissertation is about the process by which the armed forces of the United States acquire weapons of war. In order to elucidate the U.S. weapons acquisition process, it examines in detail the history of the controversial MX intercontinental ballistic missile program. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Modelling the Role of Nuclear Power and Variable Renewables in Climate Change Mitigation

    Författare :Mariliis Lehtveer; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; energy system model; nuclear power; multi-criteria analysis; variable renewables; climate change; optimisation;

    Sammanfattning : As the number of people on Earth and our energy needs have increased the system for providing this energy has become ever more complex and complicated and thus the need for more systematic understanding of it has grown. However, change in energy system is slow and many of the challenges that we face such as mitigating climate change need global solutions. LÄS MER
