1. Bone structure characterisation using neutron scattering techniques
Sammanfattning : Bones have unique mechanical properties that originate from their main constituents: mineral, in the form of hydroxyapatite (HAp) crystals, and collagen type-I. The stiffness of the HAp mineral combined with the flexibility of collagen, and their intricate hierarchical arrangement from the smallest individual building blocks to the organ level, result in a composite tissue with a remarkable ability to withstand complex loading scenarios. 2. Neural Networks Applications and Electronics Development for Nuclear Fusion Neutron Diagnostics
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the development of electronic modules for fusion neutron spectroscopy as well as several implementations of artificial neural networks (NN) for neutron diagnostics for the Joint European Torus (JET) experimental reactor in England. The electronics projects include the development of two fast light pulser modules based on Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) for the calibration and stability monitoring of two neutron spectrometers (MPRu and TOFOR) at JET. 3. Fast-Neutron Tomography using a Mobile Neutron Generator for Assessment of Steam-Water Distributions in Two-Phase Flows
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the measurement technique of fast-neutron tomography for assessing spatial distributions of steam and water in two-phase flows. This so-called void distribution is of importance both for safe operation and for efficient use of the fuel in light water reactors, which compose the majority of the world’s commercial nuclear reactors. 4. Leave no trace: A non-destructive correlative approach providing new insights into impactites and meteorites
Sammanfattning : Impact cratering is today recognized as a fundamental geological process on all rocky bodies in the solar system. On Earth, however, processes such as plate tectonics and erosion have eradicated most craters from the geological record, or they may be buried under sediments, oceans, and vegetation. LÄS MER
5. Quantitative 3D reconstruction of porous polymers using FIB-SEM tomography -correlating materials structures to properties of coatings for controlled drug release
Sammanfattning : Porous networks are found in a wide range of different advanced and technologically important materials and influence the materials properties. The networks are active components in for example batteries, food and pharmaceuticals. The interconnectivity of a network strongly influences the transport properties. LÄS MER
