1. Studies on Potency and breadth of HIV-1, HIV-2 and SIV neutralizing antibody responses
Sammanfattning : Even though the relative contribution of neutralizing antibodies (Nab) to prevent progression to AIDS during HIV-1 infection is still unclear, the induction of broadly NAb directed against HIV-1 through vaccination is considered to represent an important goal for the development of HIV-1 vaccines. Factors contributing to the induction of NAb may include the strength and duration of antigenic stimulation, the preservation of CD4+ T and B cells, the conformation of the HIV-1 envelope glycoprotein complex (Env), and the evolution of Env during infection. 2. Effects of galectins and antibodies in HIV infection; Novel Assays
Sammanfattning : The high variability of the HIV envelope glycoproteins (Env), and their heavy glycan coating, contributes to the limited host immune control. Still, broadly neutralizing antibodies (bnAbs) are found in some chronically infected HIV-infected individuals, which has spurred the research on antibody-based vaccines. LÄS MER
3. Interferon-beta treatment in multiple sclerosis : analysis of neutralizing antibodies
Sammanfattning : Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disabling chronic neurological disease with a significant impact on patients lives. There is no cure for MS, but recombinant interferon beta (IFN-beta) is currently the most established disease modifying therapy. LÄS MER
4. Evaluation of new strategies to elicit neutralizing antibodies against HIV-1
Sammanfattning : The development of an effective HIV-1 vaccine must be considered one of the greatest biomedical challenges of today. The nature of the virus, characterized by immense variability as well as its tropism for the essential CD4+ T cells of the immune system, allows it to establish a chronic infection for years under constant immune selection pressure. 5. Expression of recombinant neutralizing anti-HIV-1 antibodies in bacteria and eukaryotic cells
Sammanfattning : The main purpose of this study was to investigate and optimize techniques for eukaryotic expression of antibody molecules (IgG, Fab and scFV-ê formats), derived from an immune phage displayed Fab library and reactive against HIV-1 glycoproteins gp120 and gp41. Light and heavy-chain (Fd) DNA from a number of Fab clones were transferred from a prokaryotic phagemid vectors to mammalian expression vectors. LÄS MER
