21. Environmental Factors of Importance in Myasthenia Gravis : Emphasis on Physical Activity
Sammanfattning : Myasthenia Gravis (MG) is an autoimmune disease caused by antibodies directed against proteins at the neuromuscular junction (NMJ). The disturbed neuromuscular transmission induces fatigable weakness in skeletal muscles. LÄS MER
22. The Clinical and Pathological Spectrum of Idiopathic Inflammatory Myopathies : Implications for pathogenesis, classification and diagnosis
Sammanfattning : Background: Idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIM) constitute a heterogeneous group of diseases with severe consequences for the life of affected patients. Dermatomyositis, polymyositis and inclusion body myositis (IBM) are the classical representatives of this group. LÄS MER
23. The health economics of Duchenne muscular dystrophy
Sammanfattning : Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a rare neuromuscular disease characterized by progressive muscle degeneration resulting in loss of independent ambulation, serious multisystem complications, and a mean life expectancy at birth of about 25 years. Several therapies are on the horizon for DMD and it has thus become urgent to better understand the health economic context of the disease to enable assessments of cost-effectiveness and inform decisions regarding reimbursement of new health technologies. 24. Cellular and Molecular Mechanisms Underlying Acute Quadriplegic Myopathy : Studies in Experimental Animal Models and Intensive Care Unit Patients
Sammanfattning : The combination of a severe systemic illness, corticosteroids, and neuromuscular blocking agents in patients on the mechanical ventilator often results in a condition known as Acute Quadriplegic Myopathy (AQM). While severe weakness of all spinal nerve innervated muscles is known to be a significant clinical characteristic of the disease, this symptom is typically not recognized until the disease has progressed to an advanced stage. 25. Mathematical modeling of the human smooth pursuit system
Sammanfattning : This licentiate thesis concerns mathematical modeling and identification of the the human smooth pursuit system (SPS) and the application of the models to motor symptom quantification in Parkinson's disease (PD).The SPS is a complex neuromuscular system governing smooth pursuit eye movements (SPEM), and the task is to keep a moving target in the visual field.
