  1. 1. Heart Regeneration : Lessons from the Red Spotted Newt

    Författare :Nevin Witman; Jamie Morrison; Thomas Braun; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Heart; Regeneration; Newt; microRNAs; RNA editing; Molecular Biology; molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Unlike mammals, adult salamanders possess an intrinsic ability to regenerate complex organs and tissue types, making them an exciting and useful model to study tissue regeneration. The aims of this thesis are two fold, (1) to develop and characterize a reproducible cardiac regeneration model system in the newt, and (2) to decipher the cellular and molecular underpinnings involved in regeneration. 2. 2. Vitamin A regulated neuronal regeneration and homeostasis

    Författare :Sofia Håglin; Anna Berghard; Staffan Bohm; Leif Carlsson; Ola Hermanson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Activity dependent; Adult stem cells; Ageing; CYP26B1; Homeostasis; Metaplasia; Neurogenesis; Olfactory epithelium; Regeneration; Respiratory epithelium; Retinoic acid; Sensory map; Vitamin A;

    Sammanfattning : The olfactory epithelium is a dynamic tissue maintained by continuous neurogenesis throughout life. Upon injury, neurons and other olfactory cell types are regenerated through proliferation of horizontal stem cells. Some genes that regulate vitamin A metabolism are spatially expressed in the olfactory epithelium. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Gene expression and regeneration in ophiuroids: A study of transcriptional activity and regeneration in the temperate Amphiura filiformis and Antarctic Ophionotus victoriae

    Författare :Gavin Burns; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; echinoderm; regeneration; ophiuroid; gene expression; antarctica;

    Sammanfattning : Regeneration, in which lost or damaged tissues are re-grown, is a common phenomenon amongst animals and especially so within the ophiuroids (brittle stars) of the phylum echinodermata. The process of regeneration begins with the injury event followed by a period of cell and tissue reorganization which results in wound healing and tissue re-growth. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The role of regeneration in plant niche differentiation and habitat specialization

    Författare :Dirk-Jan ten Brink; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; seed mass; seed size; drought; shade; seed germination; seed dormancy; seedling establishment; plant community ecology; assembly rules; habitat specialization; plant recruitment; Regeneration; niche differentiation; phylogenetic independent contrasts; plant traits; soil fertility; comparative ecology;

    Sammanfattning : To predict the effects of environmental change and nature management on the distribution of plant species, it is crucial to understand the mechanisms of plant niche differentiation and habitat specialization. The importance to habitat specialization of particular plant traits and requirement of the regenerative phase of the plants life has received scanty interest. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Exploring the fate of emerging contaminants during hydrothermal regeneration of carbonaceous adsorbents

    Författare :Pierre Oesterle; Stina Jansson; Jerker Fick; Ulrika Rova; Capucine Dupont; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Activated biochars; HTC; regeneration; analytical chemistry; adsorption; degradation; nontarget analysis; wastewater; circular economy; emerging contaminants; surface chemistry; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi; environmental science; miljövetenskap; Pharmaceutics; galenisk farmaci; analytisk materialfysik; analytical material physics; Analytical Pharmaceutical Chemistry; analytisk farmaceutisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Wastewater from households and industries commonly contain emerging contaminants that are not easily removed by most wastewater treatment plants. These contaminants can be removed through adsorption onto adsorbents, such as activated carbon or biochars. LÄS MER
