  1. 1. Mitochondrial Iron Metabolism : Study of mitoferrin in Drosophila melanogaster

    Författare :Christoph Metzendorf; Maria Lind Karlberg; Kenneth Söderhäll; Martina Muckenthaler; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; iron; Drosophila; mitochondria; mitoferrin; ferritin; spermatogenesis; cell cycle; DFO; MRS12; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Biology with specialization in Comparative Physiology; Biologi med inriktning mot jämförande fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Iron has a dualistic character. On the one hand it is essential for the life of most organisms, on the other hand it is involved in the generation of reactive oxygen species that are implicated in diseases and aging. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Drivers of increasing iron concentrations in freshwaters

    Författare :Caroline Björnerås; Enhet akvatisk ekologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Järn; Akvatisk ekologi; Biogeokemi; Brunifiering; Iron; Freshwaters; Biogeochemistry; Brownification; Iron biogeochemistry; Browning; Freshwaters;

    Sammanfattning : Iron (Fe) concentrations are increasing in freshwaters (lakes and streams) in Sweden, as well as in other regions in northern Europe. Together with increasing concentrations of organic matter, Fe is contributing to the ongoing browning of freshwaters, which may have serious ecological consequences and implications for ecosystem services. 3. 3. Iron in Haem Biosynthesis. Structural Studies of Ferrochelatase and Frataxin

    Författare :Tobias Karlberg; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Naturvetenskap; Natural science; Molekylär biofysik; Molecular biophysics; Biomedicinska vetenskaper; Biomedical sciences; protein crystallography; ferrochelatase; haem biosynthesis; iron; frataxin;

    Sammanfattning : Ferrochelatase catalyses the synthesis of heme by inserting Fe(II) into protoporphyrin IX. The structure of ferrochelatase from yeast has been determined (2.4 Å). The structure is homodimeric with each of the monomer made up of two Rossmann type domains with an active-site cleft between them. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Biomimetic Iron Complexes involved in Oxygenation and Chlorination : A Theoretical Study

    Författare :Holger Noack; Margareta R. A. Blomberg; Per E. M. Siegbahn; Martin Kaupp; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biomimetic; iron; density functional theory; intradiol; chlorination; adpic acid; diamond core; reactivity; Bio-inorganic chemistry; Bio-oorganisk kemi; Theoretical chemistry; Teoretisk kemi; kemisk fysik; Chemical Physics;

    Sammanfattning : Biomimetic chemistry is directed towards the simulation of enzymatic reactivity with synthetic analogues. In this thesis a quantum chemical method has been employed to study the mechanism of highly reactive iron-oxo complexes involved in oxygenation and chlorination of organic substrates. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Iron catalyzed C-C coupling reactions - mechanistic investigations

    Författare :Anna Hedström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; iron; homogenous catalysis; cross coupling; C-C bond formation; reaction mechanisms; kinetic investigations; competitive Hammett study; density functional theory;

    Sammanfattning : The mechanism of the iron catalyzed cross coupling of aryl electrophiles with alkyl Grignard reagents was studied. The reaction proceeds via a rate-limiting oxidative addition of the aryl halide to an Fe(I) complex generated in situ. A transmetalation from an aryl Grignard reagent occurs either before or after the oxidative addition. LÄS MER
