  1. 1. Fabrication of nanocellulose-based materials : Liquid crystalline phase formation and design of inorganic–nanocellulose hybrids

    Författare :Christina Schütz; Lennart Bergström; Germán Salazar-Alvarez; Mark MacLachlan; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Materials Chemistry; materialkemi;

    Sammanfattning : The increasing need to replace fossil fuels as a source of energy and raw material is resulting in extensive research efforts towards identifying and developing high performance materials and devices based on renewable sources. Cellulose being the most versatile and abundant biopolymer in nature is one of the obvious choices. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Use of Switchable Carbamate Surfactants for Design of Reversible Colouring of Cotton

    Författare :Anna-Karin Hellström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cotton; pigment; textile colouring; de-colouring; switchable surfactant; carbamate;

    Sammanfattning : Circularity of materials is a global need. However, recycling of cotton often requires many steps involving chemical or mechanical treatments. According to the waste hierarchy, reuse is a more environmentally benign approach than recycling, giving extended lifecycles with only limited processing of materials. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Functional Nanocellulose–Tannin Materials Inspired by Nature and Traditional Processes

    Författare :Konstantin Kriechbaum; Lennart Bergström; Alain Dufresne; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cellulose; Nanofibrils; Tannin; Biobased; Films; Foams; Moisture resistance; Energy efficiency; Materials Chemistry; materialkemi;

    Sammanfattning : Renewable and biodegradable alternatives to fossil-based materials are essential as concerns over depleting finite resources and the pollution of our ecosystems are growing. Abundant, highly anisotropic, and mechanically strong cellulose nanofibrils (CNF) are attractive building blocks for the fabrication of high-performance biobased materials that can compete with their conventional fossil-based counterparts. 4. 4. A Utopian Quest for Universal Knowledge : Diachronic Histories of Botanical Collections between the Sixteenth Century and the Present

    Författare :Anna Svensson; Sabine Höhler; Peder Roberts; Sverker Sörlin; Dániel Margócsy; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; history of botany; utopia; Oxford University Botanic Garden; pressed plants in books; botanical collection; classification; herbarium; Global Plants; digitisation; database; conservation; natural dyeing; botanikhistoria; utopi; Oxford University Botanic Garden; pressade växter i böcker; botaniska samlingar; klassifikation; herbarium; Global Plants; digitalisering; databas; växtfärgning; Historiska studier av teknik; vetenskap och miljö; History of Science; Technology and Environment;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis explores the history of botany as a global collection-based science by tracing parallels between utopian traditions and botanical collecting, from their sixteenth-century beginnings to the present. A range of botanical collections, such as gardens, herbaria and classification systems, have played a central role in the struggle to discover a global or universal scientific order for the chaotic, diverse and locally shaped kingdom of plants. 5. 5. Eco-designed functionalization of polyester fabric

    Författare :Tove Agnhage; Guido Sonnemann; Isabelle Vroman; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Eco-design; Life cycle assessment; Madder; Anthraquinone; Bioactive; Multifunctional; Polyester; Textil och mode generell ; Textiles and Fashion General ;

    Sammanfattning : There is an increased awareness of the textile dyeing and finishing sector’s high impact on the environment due to high water consumption, polluted wastewater, and inefficient use of energy. To reduce environmental impacts, researchers propose the use of dyes from natural sources. LÄS MER
