1. Multiple primary malignancies in breast cancer patients. From population study to genetics
Sammanfattning : Breast cancer (BC) is one of the most common causes of cancer-related death among women worldwide. Due to early detection of BC and more tailor-made treatments, patients live longer despite their illness. Studies have shown that BC patients are at risk of developing new tumors in organs other than the breast, mainly caused by BC treatment. LÄS MER
2. Tumors associated with Hereditary Nonpolyposis Colorectal Cancer: Defective Mismatch Repair and Familial Risk of Cancer
Sammanfattning : Inactivation of the DNA mismatch repair (MMR) system is a tumorigenic mechanism involved in 15-20% of tumor types such as colorectal and endometrial cancer and is specifically associated with the Hereditary Nonpolyposis Colorectal Cancer (HNPCC) syndrome. These MMR defective tumors are characterized by microsatellite instability (MSI), a phenomenon that reflects alterations in length of repeated sequences, and 90% of MSI tumors show loss of immunohistochemical expression for the MMR protein affected. 3. Cancer of unknown primary: searching for the etiological clues. A population-based epidemiological study in Sweden

4. Soft Tissue Sarcoma Patterns multiplicity, heterogeneity and growth characteristics
Sammanfattning : Soft tissue sarcomas (STS) represent a group of rare and heterogenous tumors that optimally should be diagnosed and treated within multidisciplinary teams. This thesis has studied various aspects ? pathological, genetical, and clinical ? of STS. LÄS MER
5. Immunotherapy and COX-2 inhibition against malignant brain tumors
Sammanfattning : Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common primary brain tumor in the central nervous system and the prognosis is very poor despite conventional therapies including surgery, chemo- and radiotherapy. Peripheral vaccination with irradiated tumor cells represent a novel therapy that targets both dividing and non-dividing tumor cells and minimizes the risk of therapy resistance by presenting multiple tumor antigens.
