1. Food Antigen Sensitivity in Coeliac Disease Assessed by the Mucosal Patch Technique
Sammanfattning : A diagnosis of coeliac disease (CD) in adults relies on the presence of a structurally abnormal intestinal mucosa, followed by a clear clinical remission on a gluten-free diet. There is a clear need for a rapid, simple, safe and sensitive method to determine the type and intensity of inflammation in the gut mucosa in clinical practice. LÄS MER
2. Food hypersensitivity among schoolchildren : prevalence, Health Related Quality of Life and experiences of double-blind placebo-controlled food challenges
Sammanfattning : Background: The prevalence of reported food hypersensitivity among children has increased in Western countries. However, the prevalence varies largely due to differences in methods used in different studies. Double-blind placebo-controlled food challenge (DBPCFC) is the most reliable method to verify or exclude food hypersensitivity. LÄS MER
3. Epidemiology of food hypersensitivity in school children : validation with double-blind placebo-controlled food challenges and biomarkers
Sammanfattning : Background: This thesis focuses on the incidence and remission of reported food hypersensitivity in schoolchildren followed from 8 to 12 -years of age and the prevalence of hypersensitivity to milk, egg, cod and wheat among 12-year olds investigated by reported data, clinical investigation and double-blind placebo-controlled food challenges and biomarkers. Methods: The studies are mainly based on a population based cohort recruited in 2006 from three municipalities in Northern Sweden. 4. Polyunsaturated fatty acids and allergy development
Sammanfattning : Allergies have increased strikingly in the affluent parts of the world during the last century. The cause of the rapid increase is unknown but several risk factors have been postulated, the main ones relating to reduced microbial exposures and changed diet. LÄS MER
5. Symptoms of food hypersensitivity in relation to sensitization to food and health-related quality of life in children
Sammanfattning : Intensive research in the field of food hypersensitivity (FHS) and food allergy has resulted in determination of serum levels of IgE antibodies to food above which the probability of demonstrating symptoms is ≥ 95%. However, data concerning clinical phenotypes of FHS and the relationship between sensitization to food and symptoms are presently scarce. LÄS MER
