1. On the Versatility of Microwave-Assisted Chemistry : Exemplified by Applications in Medicinal Chemistry, Heterocyclic Chemistry and Biochemistry
Sammanfattning : Today, the demand for speed in drug discovery is constantly increasing, particularly in the iterative processes of hit validation and expansion and lead optimization. Irradiation with microwaves (MWs) has been applied in the area of organic synthesis to accelerate chemical reactions and to facilitate the generation of new chemical entities since 1986. LÄS MER
2. Recent Extraction Techniques with Emphasis on Supercritical Fluid Extraction and Microwave-assisted Extraction
Sammanfattning : Today’s requirements of fast, reliable and selective analytical methods with minimal usage of organic solvents have accelerated the development of new, automated extraction techniques. In this thesis recent extraction techniques with emphasis on supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) and microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) were investigated. LÄS MER
3. Microwave-Assisted Synthesis of C2-Symmetric HIV-1 Protease Inhibitors : Development and Applications of In Situ Carbonylations and other Palladium(0)-Catalyzed Reactions
Sammanfattning : The HIV protease is an essential enzyme for HIV replication and constitutes an important target in the treatment of HIV/AIDS. Efficient combination therapies using inhibitors of the reverse transcriptase and protease enzymes have led many to reevaluate HIV infections from a terminal condition to a chronic-but-manageable disease in the developed world. 4. Synthesis and biological evaluation of Bicyclic β-Lactams and 2-Pyridinones : Pilicides Targeting Pilus Biogenesis in Pathogenic Bacteria
Sammanfattning : New methods have been developed for the synthesis of bicyclic β-lactams and 2-pyridinones by combining acyl Meldrum’s acids and Δ2-thiazolines. The 2-pyridinones were synthesised both in solution using conventional heating or microwave assisted heating as well as by solid supported chemistry. LÄS MER
5. Fast Chemistry by Microwave Heating : First Descriptions of Highly Enantioselective Microwave Protocols for Metal Catalysis; First Descriptions of in-situ Gas Generation for Fast Combinatorial Microwave Chemistry
Sammanfattning : Microwave heating was applied to different palladium-catalyzed allylic substitution reactions. The use of various nucleophiles demonstrated C-, N-, O- and S- nucleophilicity. High yields and stereopurities of the corresponding alkyls, amides, ethers and sulfones were afforded after only 30 – 120 s of heating. LÄS MER
