1. Lipid based formulations for topical application: characterization and delivery of active substances
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the interaction between lipids, solvents and active substances in lipid based formulations have been studied and related to formulation structure or release behavior on human skin or a model thereof. For the different investigations, isotropic equilibrium lipid phases, i.e. LÄS MER
2. Fat metabolism : A clinical and experimental study with special reference to newborns
Sammanfattning : Lipid emulsion is an important constituent of total parenteral nutrition (TPN). In the investigations described in this thesis the effects of different lipid emulsions in neonates were studied. LÄS MER
3. Fat metabolism during total parenteral nutrition: A biochemical and ultra-structural study
Sammanfattning : This thesis evaluates alterations in lipid metabolism and Kupffer cell morphology seen during total parenteral nutrition in healthy rats. During infusion of lipid emulsions, cholesterol and phospholipids accumulated in non-high density lipoproteins, while high density lipoproteins were enriched in triglycerides. LÄS MER
4. The effect of various dietary fatty acids on adaptive thermogenesis
Sammanfattning : Recently it has been revealed that brown adipose tissue (BAT) is present in adult humans and not, as thought before, only in infants and rodents. BAT, with a main function to generate heat, is also involved in energy metabolism by an adaptive response to eating, referred to as diet-induced thermogenesis (DIT). LÄS MER
5. Lecithin-Based Microemulsions for Pharmaceutical use - Phase behavior and Solution Structure
Sammanfattning : Microemulsions are thermodynamically stable, transparent solutions of water, oil and amphiphile(s). It is possible to incorporate large amounts of oil in microemulsions, which makes them interesting for use as a drug delivery vehicle for water insoluble drugs. A prerequisite for pharmaceutical use, however, is a low toxicity of the composition. LÄS MER
