Sammanfattning : The overall aim of the present thesis was to describe the meaning of living with heart failure as a middle-aged person. In particular, the relation between the persons’ life-situations and formal care was explored. 3. En tillvaro av utanförskap : En longitudinell studie om att vara i medelåldern och närstående till en person som insjuknat i stroke
Sammanfattning : Ett övergripande syfte med avhandling var att belysa den levda erfarenheten av att vara i medelåldern och närstående till en person som insjuknat i stroke för första gången och studera de närståendes erfarenheter av förändringen över tid under det första året efter utskrivning till hemmet, samt att belysa innebörden av medelålders makars levda erfarenhet av relationen till en partner som insjuknat i stroke; under det första året. 4. Body mass index, cognitive ability, and dementia : prospective associations and methodological issues in late life
Sammanfattning : The aims of the present study were to investigate the association between overweight and cognitive ability and dementia, and to evaluate the usefulness of self-reported body mass index (BMI) in late life and various data sources commonly used in epidemiological studies to identify persons with dementia. Data were drawn from three population-based studies: the Swedish Adoption/Twin Study of Aging (SATSA), Aging in Women and Men: A Longitudinal Study of Gender Differences in Health Behaviour and Health among Elderly (the Gender Study), and the Finnish Lieto Study. 5. The presence of the past : a life course approach to the social determinants of health and health inequalities in northern Sweden
Sammanfattning : Background: Positioned at the intersection between the social and life course epidemiological sub-fields, this thesis builds on the idea that the health implications of life and living conditions can extend over years and decades before becoming expressed in the population patterns of ill-health. The overall purpose was to assess how multiple types of social determinants of health across the life course may contribute to ill-health and health inequalities in midlife. LÄS MER
