6. Pediatric caudal anesthesia with reference to spread and intracranial effects
Sammanfattning : Background: Caudal anesthesia is, since 1933, the most common regional anesthetic technique used in children and has hitherto been described as a safe and straightforward method. Recent research has shown that a high-dose (1. LÄS MER
7. Ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia in children and adults: aspects on central and peripheral blocks
Sammanfattning : The universal use of regional anesthesia has previously been hampered by fundamental factors, e.g. excessive failure rates, inability to detected anatomical variations and fear for unintentional tissue damage; all due to the inherent imprecision of previous localization techniques. 8. On paediatric regional anaesthesia : the use of paravertebral blockade, aspects on plasma protein binding, and systemic toxicity of local anaesthetics
Sammanfattning : Paediatric regional anaesthesia has gained widespread popularity during recent years because of an excellent potential for intra- and postoperative pain relief and reduction of the surgically induced stress response. The aim of the present thesis was to adapt and develop the technique of paravertebral blockade (PVB) for the safe use in paediatric patients and also to investigate aspects on plasma protein binding and toxicity of local anaesthetic drugs which might be of importance in the special settings of paediatric anaesthesia. 9. A concept for treatment of sports related knee injuries
Sammanfattning : The aim of the present thesis was, to evaluate local anaesthesia as ananaesthetic technique when performing knee arthroscopies, from a clinicaland economical point of view, and to describe the total costs for surgeryof knee injuries caused by sport activities in Stockholm. In a retrospective study of 6519 arthroscopies, we tried to estimate thefailure rate for knee arthroscopy in local anaesthesia compared to thesame procedure in general anaesthesia. LÄS MER
10. Effects of surgery on substrate metabolism in human adipose tissue
Sammanfattning : The aim of this study was to characterize the effects of cholecystectomy on substrate metabolism in vivo and blood flow in adipose tissue using microdialysis of the tissue interstitial compartment. One day after surgery, general insulin resistance and glucose intolerance developed, there was no involvement of the glucose metabolism in adipose tissue. LÄS MER
