1. Laparoscopic Lavage - A Paradigm Shift for the Treatment of Perforated Diverticulitis with Purulent Peritonitis?
Sammanfattning : Introduction: Perforated diverticulitis of the colon is a condition that sometimes requires surgical treatment. Traditionally Hartmann’s procedure is the recommended treatment. Laparoscopic lavage has lately evoked interest as a definite treatment for perforated diverticulitis with purulent peritonitis. LÄS MER
2. Proteomics in Nasal Lavage Fluids from Persulfate Challenged Hairdressers
Sammanfattning : Hairdressers have an increased risk for developing airway symptoms e.g. asthma and rhinitis. Persulfate salts, which are oxidizing agents present in bleaching powder, are considered to be important causal agents for these symptoms. LÄS MER
3. Galectin binding proteins in serum and bronchoalveolar lavage -in healthy and pathological conditions
Sammanfattning : Galectins are carbohydrate binding proteins, implicated in conditions of both inflammation and cancer. Connections between chronic inflammation and cancer are proposed by the increased remodelling and proliferation that occurs, leading to enhanced survival and proliferation of malignant cells. LÄS MER
4. The Bronchoalveolar Lavage Proteome- Phenotypic associations to smoking and divergence towards development of COPD
Sammanfattning : Proteomic analysis of bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid from smokers at risk of developing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and never smokers is described. COPD is currently the world's fourth leading cause of death and its prevalence is increasing. LÄS MER
5. Multi-platform metabolomics assays to study the responsiveness of the human plasma and lung lavage metabolome
Sammanfattning : Metabolomics as a field has been used to track changes and perturbations in the human body by investigating metabolite profiles indicating the change of metabolite levels over time and in response to different challenges. In this thesis work, the main focus was on applying multiplatform-metabolomics to study the human metabolome following exposure to perturbations, such as diet (in the form of a challenge meal) and exhaust emissions (air pollution exposure in a controlled setting).
