1. Phenotypic Specification of Striatal Progenitors; Evidence for both cell-autonomous and environmental control as studied by transplantation into the adult and developing rodent brain
Sammanfattning : The striatum is the major component of the ventral telencephalon and basal ganglia, involved in the processing of cortical information. The vast majority of the neuronal population in the striatum are striatal projection neurons, with connection to the globus pallidus and substantia nigra. LÄS MER
2. GDNF and alpha-synuclein in nigrostriatal degeneration
Sammanfattning : Parkinson’s disease is a common neurological disorder with a complex etiology. The disease is characterized by a progressive loss of dopaminergic cells in the substantia nigra, which leads to motor function and sometimes cognitive function disabilities. LÄS MER
3. Development of the Mouse Lateral Telencephalon
Sammanfattning : The telencephalon is the most rostral part of the vertebrate central nervous system and is comprised of a number of structures important for voluntary movements and higher cognitive processes. This thesis focuses on the genetic mechanisms that control development of a number of telencephalic structures: the olfactory bulb, the striatum as well as the lateral and basolateral nuclei of the amygdala. 4. Mechanisms controlling striatal projection neurone generation, from patterning to early differentiation
Sammanfattning : The striatum is part of the telencephalon, the most anterior part of the vertebrate brain. From when it first can be identified, telencephalic morphology is highly complex and a wide range of mechanisms has been suggested to participate in its induction, patterning and neurogenesis. 5. Neuronal and glial differentiation of expanded neural stem and progenitor cells; in vitro and after transplantation
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we have used cells dissected from the lateral ganglionic eminence (LGE), the medial ganglionic eminence (MGE), and the cortical primordium of the embryonic mouse forebrain. The tissue was dissected from either i) wild-type mice, ii) green fluorescent protein (GFP)-, or iii) Gtv-a-expressing transgenic mice, and subsequently grown and expanded in vitro using two different protocols.
