1. Hybrid fiber preform fabrication using CO laser heating
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the development of a new prototyping technique for specialty optical fibers and covers all the fabrication steps from preform to fiber. The technique allows to produce fibers of a custom core structure and material composition, mainly focusing on semiconductor core fibers. LÄS MER
2. Thermal Conductivity of Materials under Conditions of Planetary Interiors
Sammanfattning : The presented thesis focuses on study of transport and thermoelastic properties of materials under conditions of planetary interiors by means of high-pressure experimental tools and finite element modeling, and their role in the dynamics and states of cores of terrestrial planets. Experiments in laser-heated diamond anvil cell (LHDAC) in combination with numerical simulations of heat transfer in DAC are shown to yield information on thermal conductivity of a pressurized sample. 3. Infrared Neural Modulation: Photothermal Effects on Cortex Neurons Using Infrared Laser Heating
Sammanfattning : It would be of great value to have a precise and non-damaging neuromodulation technique in the field of basic neuroscience research and for clinical treatment of neurological diseases. Infrared neural modulation (INM) is a new modulation modality developed in the last decade, which uses pulsed or continues infrared (IR) light with a wavelength of 1200 to 2200 nm to directly alter neural signals. 4. The role of deep hydrocarbons in the global hydrocarbon budget
Sammanfattning : Nowadays, the issue of global warming and related environmental problems got widespread awareness among scientific society, politics, the industry as well as it has affected our everyday life. The reason for such a negative impact on the atmosphere is attributed mainly to human activities. LÄS MER
5. Membrane-Polymer Interactions in Lipid Vesicles
Sammanfattning : Membrane related biological processes are commonly investigated in artificial biomimetic experimental systems. One of the most versatile models is based upon giant unilamellar phospholipid vesicles (liposomes), which are artificially generated spherical lipid structures in an aqueous environment. LÄS MER
