  1. 1. In-situ activated hydrogen evolution from pH-neutral electrolytes

    Författare :John Gustavsson; Ann Cornell; Olof Forsén; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :molybdate; trivalent cations; electrolysis; hypochlorite reduction; films; electrolysis; chlorate process; molybdat; trivalenta katjoner; elektrolys; hypokloritreduktion; filmer; kloratprocessen; SRA - Energy; SRA - Energi;

    Sammanfattning : The goal of this work was to better understand how molybdate and trivalent cations can be used as additives to pH neutral electrolytes to activate the Hydrogen Evolution Reaction (HER). Special emphasis was laid on the chlorate process and therefore also to some of the other effects that the additives may have in that particular process. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Efficiency and Selectivity in the Chlorate Process

    Sammanfattning : This licentiate thesis presents experimental studies concerning two parts of the electrochemical cell in the chlorate process: a cathode and an anode.Newly synthesized MnOx electrodes were investigated for the cathodic reaction, hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in the chlorate process.     Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Electrocatalysis; metallic oxides; ruthenium dioxide; titanium dioxide; DSA; doping; selectivity; ab initio modeling; density functional theory; Elektrokatalys; metalloxider; ruteniumdioxid; titandioxid; DSA; dopning; selektivitet; ab initio-modellering; täthetsfunktionalteori; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Heterogeneous electrocatalysis is the usage of solid materials to decrease the amount of energy needed to produce chemicals using electricity. It is of core importance for modern life, as it enables production of chemicals, such as chlorine gas and sodium chlorate, needed for e.g. materials and pharmaceuticals production. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Oxygen formation in the chlorate process and preparation and deactivation of ozone selective anodes

    Författare :Staffan Sandin; Ann M. Cornell; Paul Christensen; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATO; EOP; ozone; electrode preparation; elec- trode deactivation; hypochlorite; chlorate; oxygen; chromium VI ; sodium dichromate; electrocatalysis; catalysis; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents experimental studies concerning two differ-ent electrolytic processes. One part deals with the electrochemicalformation of ozone and focuses on the preparation and deactiva-tion of a highly ozone-selective metal oxide anode (NATO - nickeland antimony doped tin oxide). 5. 5. Influence of the electrolyte on the electrode reactions in the chlorate process

    Författare :Linda Nylén; Göran Lindbergh; Ann Cornell; Mårten Behm; Geoeff H Kelsall; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chlorate; chloride oxidation; critical anode potential; chromate; DSA; hydrogen evolution; iron; mass transport; oxygen evolution; REM; RDE; steel; Electrochemistry; Elektrokemi;

    Sammanfattning : The chlorate process is very energy intensive and a major part of the production costs are for electrical energy. Since the electricity prices are constantly increasing and may also vary periodically, the chlorate plants may be forced to adjust their production rate to the price at each moment in order to minimise their costs.
