1. Transmission Optimization for High Throughput Satellite Systems
Sammanfattning : Demands on broadband data service are increasing dramatically each year. Following terrestrial trends, satellite communication systems have moved from the traditional TV broadcasting to provide interactive broadband services even to urban users. LÄS MER
2. Resilient Resource Allocation for Service Placement in Mobile Edge Clouds
Sammanfattning : Mobile edge computing makes available distributed computation and stor-age resources in close proximity to end users and allows to provide low-latencyand high-capacity services within mobile networks. Therefore, mobile edgecomputing is emerging as a promising architecture for hosting critical ser-vices with stringent latency and performance requirements, which otherwiseare challenging to be addressed in conventional cloud computing architectures. 3. The bright lights grow fainter : livelihoods, migration and a small town in Zimbabwe
Sammanfattning : The Aids pandemic and structural adjustment policies (SAP) have had effects on lower income households in Zimbabwe which have been devastating and people have been required to adapt their livelihood strategies. 4. The Urban Tapestry : Essays on the Relationship Between Social Networks and Residential Segregation
Sammanfattning : Dominant explanations of segregation argue that patterns of spatial residential sorting are shaped by the aggregation of individual residential choices, guided by discrimination, differences in resources, and preference-based explanations of neighborhood ethnic composition. However, research on social networks indicates that social influence can serve as a driver of collective outcomes that result in social organization. LÄS MER
5. La Famiglia : The Ideology of Sicilian Family Networks
Sammanfattning : Anthropological data from fieldwork carried out among a fishing population in western Sicily show how related matrifocal nuclear families are tightly knit within larger, male-headed networks. The mother focus at the basic family level is thereby balanced and the system indicates that the mother-child unit does not function effectively on its own, as has often been argued for this type of family structure.
