1. Biomechanical and neural aspects of eccentric and concentric muscle performance in stroke subjects : Implications for resistance training
Sammanfattning : Muscle weakness is one of the major causes of post-stroke disability. Stroke rehabilitation programs now often incorporate the same type of resistance training that is used for healthy subjects; however, the training effects induced from these training strategies are often limited for stroke patients. 2. Structure and function of the ankle dorsiflexor muscles in young healthy men and women
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to increase our knowledge of the relationship between structure and function of human skeletal muscle, and about factors affecting strength. The ankle dorsiflexor muscles (DF) were chosen as a representative model of human skeletal muscle, and because these muscles have important roles in gait and maintenance of balance. LÄS MER
3. A multi-disciplinary approach to studying performance among high-level golfers : physiological and biomechanical aspects
Sammanfattning : In competitive golf, the player’s ability to hit the ball a long distance affects the score in a positive way. Swing kinematics is considered an important factor in driver performance; one way of improving swing kinematics is through strength and power training. LÄS MER
4. On the treatment of Achilles tendon rupture. A prospective, randomised study of the results after surgical and non-surgical treatment
Sammanfattning : Only two prospective, randomised studies have been published on the outcome after treatment for Achilles tendon rupture. The controversy regarding the optimal treatment continues. In the present study, 112 patients with acute Achilles tendon rupture were randomised and all of them were followed up for two years. LÄS MER
5. Long-term consequences of anterior cruciate ligament injury : knee function, physical activity level, physical capacity and movement pattern
Sammanfattning : Knee function after more than 20 years post injury is rarely described and none of the few follow-up studies have evaluated functional performance tasks. This thesis investigated self-reported knee function, physical activity level, physical capacity and movement pattern in the long-term perspective (on average 23 years) in persons who had suffered a unilateral ACL injury, treated either with physiotherapy in combination with surgery (ACLR, n=33) or physiotherapy alone (ACLPT, n=37) and compared to age-and-gender matched controls (n=33).
