  1. 1. Hyperglycemia and Focal Brain Ischemia : Clinical and Experimental Studies

    Författare :Nasim Farrokhnia; Andreas Terént; Fredrik Lennmyr; Elisabeth Björk; Henrik Hagberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Internal medicine; cerebrovascular disorders; diabetes mellitus; hyperglycemia; infarction; middle cerebral artery; ischemia; mitogen-activated protein kinases; mortality; rats; reactive oxygen species; reperfusion; signal transduction; therapeutics; Invärtesmedicin; Internal medicine; Invärtesmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Diabetes is a major risk factor for ischemic stroke and is associated with increased mortality. Additionally, hyperglycemia, a common complication in acute stroke, is associated with poor outcome. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Intestinal ischemia and reperfusion. Proinflammatory response and organ dysfunction

    Författare :Knut Olanders; Lund Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; orthopaedics; Surgery; inflammation; cytokine; leukocyte; reperfusion; ischemia; permeability; Intestine; endothelium;

    Sammanfattning : Intestinal I/R is considered to be an important initiating event in several pathophysiological conditions such as trauma, bleeding, sepsis and pancreatitis, frequently leading to concomitant both single and potentially multiple organ dysfunction. The purpose of this thesis was to study mechanims underlying the development of multiple organ dysfunction, with special focus on intercellular proinflammatory regulation in the concurrent development of tissue injury. 3. 3. Myocardial ischemia and reperfusion injury, clinical and experimental studies

    Författare :Karin Åström-Olsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; myocardium; ischemia; reperfusion injury; FKBP12; FKBP12.6;

    Sammanfattning : Acute myocardial infarction is the consequence of an occluded nutrient coronary artery. Reperfusion reduces infarct size and enhances the rate of survival. But reperfusion may also, in itself, cause reversible injury, stunning and arrhythmias, as well as irreversible lethal reperfusion injury. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Energy-Related Metabolites during and after Induced Myocardial Ischemia and Retroperfusion of the Coronary Sinus : An Experimental Study in the Pig with the Microdialysis Technique and Extracorporeal Circulation

    Författare :Vitas Zemgulis; Rolf Ekroth; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : In the clinical setting great efforts have been made with contradictory results to operate upon acutely myocardial ischemic patients. The reasons for the absence of unambiguous results are not well understood nor are they scientifically explored. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Electrocardiographic Imaging of Myocardial Ischemia, Infarction and Scar: Correlation with SPECT, MRI and Arrhythmias

    Författare :David G Strauss; Lund Klinisk fysiologi; []

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the development and testing of electrocardiographic (ECG) methods to diagnose and characterize myocardial ischemia, infarction and fibrosis (scar). The goal is to provide improved decision support to physicians regarding the optimal selection of patients for two costly, invasive therapies – percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for patients with acute myocardial infarction (MI) and implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) for patients with heart failure and reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF).
