1. Quantum Optics and Quantum Information Processing in Rare-Earth-Ion-Doped Crystals
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, aspects of the use of cryogenically cooled rare-earth-ion-doped crystals in the fields of quantum optics and quantum information processing are addressed. The experiments and theoretical considerations referred to in this thesis are based on the coherent transient interaction between light and the ions in the crystals. LÄS MER
2. Electron - Ion Recombination Data for Plasma Applications : Results from Electron Beam Ion Trap and Ion Storage Ring
Sammanfattning : This thesis contains results of electron-ion recombination processes in atomic ions relevant for plasma applications. The measurements were performed at the Stockholm Refrigerated Electron Beam Ion Trap (R-EBIT) and at the CRYRING heavy-ion storage ring. LÄS MER
3. Photodetachment spectroscopy : negative ion bound states and resonances Gunnar Haeffler

4. Detector Development, Source Characterization and Novel Applications of Laser Ion Acceleration
Sammanfattning : The main focus of the work presented in this thesis is on experimental studies oflaser acceleration of protons and other positive ions from solid targets. The topic is explored from three different angles: firstly, the development of diagnostics adapted to the ion pulses, secondly, the characterization of the source of the energetic particles and, finally, the application of laser-accelerated protons for time-resolved radiolysis of glass and water. 5. Towards Single-Ion Detection and Single-Photon Storage in Rare-Earth-Ion-Doped Crystals
Sammanfattning : Solid materials doped with rare-earth ions are considered an attractive platform for quantum information applications. One of the main reasons for this is the exceptionally long optical and hyperfine coherence times of the 4fn states, due to the shielding provided by the outer lying 5s and 5p electrons. LÄS MER
