21. Gene Therapy with Interferon Alpha and the Angiogenic Inhibitor, Vasostatin, in Neuroendocrine Tumors of the Digestive System
Sammanfattning : IFN-α has been applied in medical treatment of various neuroendocrine (NE) tumors, either alone or combination with somatostatin analogues. They can improve clinical symptoms in 50-70% of patients but a significant tumor reduction is only observed in 5-15% patients. Vasostatin (vaso) is believed to be an angiogenic inhibitor. LÄS MER
22. Endothelium-dependent vasodilation in essential hypertension
Sammanfattning : The vascular endothelium plays a crucial role in the regulation of several homeostatic parameters in the circulation. In this thesis, the influences of essential hypertension and antihypertensive agents on endothelium-dependent vasodilation (EDV) were evaluated in the human forearm circulation. LÄS MER
23. Inflammation and cortisol response in coronary artery disease
Sammanfattning : Atherosclerosis is characterized by a chronic inflammation, involving autoimmune components, in the arterial wall. An increase in proinflammatory activity relative to anti-inflammatory activity is considered to cause a progression of the disease towards plaque instability and risk of atherothrombotic events, such as acute coronary syndrome (ACS). 24. Clinical and quality aspects of native and transplant kidney biopsies in Sweden
Sammanfattning : Percutaneous kidney biopsies have been performed since 1944 to establish diagnoses and treatment. Risk factors based on a limited amount of data have shown age, blood pressure, kidney function and needle size as some risk factors for biopsy complications. LÄS MER
25. Cardiovascular risk factors and endothelium-dependent vasodilation
Sammanfattning : The vascular endothelium is a major modulator of vascular structur and function. This thesisincludes clinical studies investigating the associations between cardiovascular risk factors andendothelium-dependent vasodilation (EDV) in the human forearm vascular bed. LÄS MER
