1. Intracellular vesicles induced by monotopic membrane protein in Escherichia coli
Sammanfattning : The monotopic membrane protein alMGS, a glycosyltransferase catalyzing glucolipid synthesis in Acholeplasma laidlawii, was overexpressed in Escherichia coli. Optimization of basic growth parameters was performed, and a novel method for detergent and buffer screening using a small size-exclusion chromatography was developed. LÄS MER
2. Roles of membrane vesicles in bacterial pathogenesis
Sammanfattning : The production of membranous vesicles is observed to occur among organisms from all domains of the tree of life spanning prokaryotes (bacteria, archaea) and eukaryotes (plants, animals and fungi). Bacterial release of membrane-derived vesicles (MVs) has been studied most extensively in cases of Gram-negative species and implicating their outer membrane in formation of extracellular MVs. 3. Cellular responses to amyloid-beta protofibrils : Focus on astrocytes, extracellular vesicles and antibody treatment
Sammanfattning : Knowledge about the cellular mechanisms behind the initiation and propagation of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is limited. Decades of research have focused on neuronal abnormalities in AD, but recently more attention has been given to the glial cells. LÄS MER
4. Exploring the Interplay of Lipids and Membrane Proteins
Sammanfattning : The interplay between lipids and membrane proteins is known to affect membrane protein topology and thus have significant effect (control) on their functions. In this PhD thesis, the influence of lipids on the membrane protein function was studied using three different membrane protein models. LÄS MER
5. Extracellular vesicles in Shiga toxin-mediated disease
Sammanfattning : Extracellular vesicles are released during infectious, inflammatory and prothrombotic conditions. These are membrane-derived vesicles shed by cells during activation, senescence and/or apoptosis. Extracellular vesicles contain and transfer components of the parent cell from which they are shed.
