  1. 1. Innate immunity in diabetes mellitus. Complement components C4BP and C3 promote survival of β cells under metabolic challenges

    Författare :Klaudia Kulak; Malmö Proteinkemi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Complement System; Inflammasome; Islet Amyloid Polypeptide; Complement C3; C4b-binding protein C4BP ; Interleukin 1β; Autophagy-Related Protein 16 like 1; Diabetes mellitus; type 2;

    Sammanfattning : The Complement system is a main effector mechanism of the innate immune system, acting to enhance clearance of pathogens, but also aids removal of biological debris from the body, including immunocomplexes, apoptotic/necrotic cells and protein aggregates. Complement regulators serve to prevent excessive inflammation and their interaction with the same materials targeted by the complement system results in ‘silent’ cleaning of wastes. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Salivary biomarkers : diagnostic potential in oral and systemic diseases in epidemiological surveys

    Författare :Nilminie Rathnayake; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Interleukin-1β; -6 and -8;

    Sammanfattning : Human saliva is a fluid with many biological functions, and essential for the maintenance of oral health. Several studies report local and systemic biomarkers appearing in saliva, including electrolytes, blood products, enzymes and tissue destruction molecules, inflammatory markers as well as proteins putatively associated with different diseases. 3. 3. Rheumatoid arthritis as a modifier of periodontitis

    Författare :Letícia Algarves Miranda; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :periodontal disease; attachment loss; juvenile idiopathic arthrtitis; rheumatoid arthritis; interleukin-1β; interleukin-18; elastase;

    Sammanfattning : Periodontitis is a chronic tissue-destructive condition in which the tooth-supporting collagen fibers of ligament and bone are broken down mainly by the host s overreactive immune inflammatory response. The relation between periodontitis and other chronic inflammatory destructive diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA), has been dealt with in some studies because, in spite of their different etiologies, similar mechanisms of tissue destruction have been described in these conditions. 4. 4. Inflammatory cytokines and NFκB in Alzheimer’s disease

    Författare :Linda Fisher; Kerstin Iverfeldt; Illana Gozes; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; β-amyloid; interleukin-1; interleukin-6; cell-penetrating peptide; PNA; Neurochemistry; Neurokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia. It is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by extracellular senile plaques and intracellular neurofibrillary tangles. The main constituent of the senile plaques is the neurotoxic β-amyloid peptide. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Modulaton of gene expression in human aortic smooth muscle cells by Porphyromonas gingivalis : a possible association between periodontitis and atherosclerosis

    Författare :Boxi Zhang; Torbjörn Bengtsson; Allan Sirsjö; Hazem Khalaf; Julia Davies; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Microarray; Angiopoietin; Smooth muscle cells; TNF; Periodontitis; Atherosclerosis; Porphyromonas gingivalis; Cancer; Inflammasome; Biomedicin; Biomedicine;

    Sammanfattning : Porphyromonas gingivalis is a gram-negative, rod-shaped, and anaerobic bacterium that is involved in the pathogenesis of periodontitis. P. gingivalis produces a variety of virulence factors including gingipains and fimbriae. LÄS MER
