  1. 1. Murine insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus : a model for disease development and protection

    Författare :Björn Pilström; Dan Holmberg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunology; Immunologi; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : Insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) is an autoimmune disease caused by destruction of the insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreatic Langerhans' islets. This destruction is preceded by an infiltration of mononuclear leukocytes called insulitis. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Psychological factors and metabolic control in insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus

    Författare :Ulf Stenström; Institutionen för psykologi; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus; social support; gender; age; long-term complications; metabolic control; quality of life; well-being; insulin-pen treatment; coping; life events; locus of control beliefs; longitudinal; Applied and experimental psychology; Tillämpad och experimentell psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis consists of six studies concerning persons with insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM). The first two deal with relationships between life events, social support and metabolic control (HbA1C) over a two year period. For the female subjects, results obtained for this period were inconsistent. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Psychological and Medical Well-being and their Relation in Adults with Insulin-Dependent Diabetes Mellitus

    Författare :Björn Karlson; Institutionen för psykologi; []

    Sammanfattning : This thesis includes five studies involving different samples of adult patients with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM). Studies one and two concern effects on metabolic control and quality of life of changing from conventional insulin treatment with three syringe injections per day to an intensified insulin treatment with three syringe injections daily using an insulin pen. Sammanfattning : Aim: To study the relationship between hyperglycaemia and the onset/progression of retinopathy, blindness/moderate visual impairment or death, as well as the impact of improved glycaemic control on retinopathy in patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM). Methods: Between January 1990 and October 1995 a total of 3,220 diabetic patients were enrolled in a programme for control and screening for retinopathy. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Arterial wall stiffness in man. On gender differences and abnormalities in insulin dependent diabetes mellitus and alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency

    Författare :Åsa Rydén Ahlgren; Malmö Klinisk fysiologi och nuklearmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; sex characteristics.; abdominal aortic aneurysm; arterial stiffness; alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency; ultrasonography; Insulin dependent diabetes mellitus; Clinical physics; radiology; tomography; medical instrumentation; Klinisk fysiologi; radiologi; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering;

    Sammanfattning : The mechanical properties of major arteries may reflect early manifestations of vascular disease and are also of interest because they are important for cardiac work. Using echo-tracking sonography and blood pressure measurements, arterial stiffness and diameters were investigated in healthy individuals as well as in patients with insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) or alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency (alpha1-AT deficiency).
