  1. 1. Effects of Complement Opsonization of HIV on Dendritic Cells : and Implications for the Immune Response

    Författare :Rada Ellegård; Marie Larsson; Jorma Hinkula; Johan D Söderholm; William Paxton; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; HIV; dendritic cells; complement; innate immune response; TLR signaling; T cell activation; NK cells; inflammation; antiviral response; immune evasion;

    Sammanfattning : Dendritic cells are key players during HIV pathogenesis, and shape both the immediate immune response at the site of infection as well as directing the adaptive immune response against the virus. HIV has developed a plethora of immune evasion mechanisms that hijack dendritic cell functions, suppressing their ability to mount an accurate immune response and exploiting them for efficient viral transfer to target T cells. 2. 2. Haemophilus influenzae adhesins and the innate immune response

    Författare :Elena Ronander; Malmö Klinisk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; inflammation; Haemophilus influenzae; Haemophilus surface fibrils; complement; innate immune response; protein E; respiratory epithelium; adhesins;

    Sammanfattning : Haemophilus influenzae is a human specific Gram-negative respiratory tract pathogen. Encapsulated H. influenzae strains exist in six different serotypes a-f, of which type b (Hib) is the most virulent. Hib is protected by the polysaccharide capsule when invading the blood circulaton and may cause diseases such as meningitis and epiglottitis. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Bacterial virulence or exorbitant host response? On innate immunity against the streptococcal M1 protein

    Författare :Sandra Persson; Infektionsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Skin infection; Streptococcus pyogenes; M1 protein; Innate Immunity; Host response; Virulence factor; Neutrophil recruitment; Heparin-binding protein HBP ; Leptospirosis;

    Sammanfattning : Bacterial infection is inevitable throughout a lifetime. What differs between mild andserious infections is the pathogen responsible and how the host immune systemresponds to it. A fundamental role to prevent infection is a proper physical barrier such as the skin and mucosa. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Innate immune cell response in sepsis

    Författare :Yongzhi Wang; Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Inflammation; abdominal sepsis; neutrophil; monocyte; platelet; coagulation; lung;

    Sammanfattning : Leukocyte recruitment is known to be a key feature at sites of inflammation and important in the combat against infectious agents. However, the mechanisms of leukocyte recruitment in the pulmonary microvasculature in response to local and systemic inflammation remain elusive. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Optimization of the perioperative anaesthetic care for prostate cancer surgery : clinical studies on pain, stress response and immunomodulation

    Författare :Federica Fant; Anil Gupta; Kjell Axelsson; Swen-Olof Andersson; Sigridur Kalman; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Radical retropubic prostatectomy; epidural analgesia; patientcontrolled local anaesthesia; patient-controlled analgesia; surgical stress response; local and general inflammatory reaction; immune response; Anaesthesiology; Anestesiologi; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Prostate cancer (PC) is the most common cancer form in men. Surgery is the treatment of choice for localized form of PC and half of all surgical procedures are radical retropubic prostatectomies (RRP). LÄS MER
