  1. 6. Cytokine-regulated eosinophil migration in inflammatory disorders : Clinical and experimental studies

    Författare :Maria Lampinen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; Eosinophil; cytokine; migration; inflammation; asthma; allergy; inflammatory bowel disease; ulcerative colitis; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Clinical Chemistry; klinisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The accumulation of eosinophil granulocytes (EOS) at sites of inflammation is a common feature of astma, allergic rhinitis and inflammatory bowel disease. The aim of the present investigation was to study the mechanisms involved in this accumulation. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Inflammatory Mediators and Enterovirus Infections in Human Islets of Langerhans

    Författare :Annika Moëll; Gun Frisk; Olle Korsgren; Bo Nilsson; Outi Vaarala; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Immunology; diabetes; islets of Langerhans; enterovirus; inflammatory mediators; cytokines; nicotinamide; Immunologi;

    Sammanfattning : Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is due to a selective loss of the insulin producing β-cells. However, the process responsible for this loss is still unknown. There is accumulating evidence that enteroviruses (EVs) are involved in T1D. In addition to direct virus-induced cytolysis, EVs could facilitate β-cell destruction by inducing inflammatory cytokines. 3. 8. Tissue reactions to biomaterials

    Författare :Agneta Rosengren; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cytochemistry; Histology; Macrophages; Cryosubstitution; Proteins; Immunohistochemistry; Titanium; Implants; PTFE; histochemistry; tissue culture; Histologi; cytokemi; histokemi; vävnadskultur;

    Sammanfattning : The biological response to different implanted biomaterials vary. The relative importance of factors in the material and host for this variation are at present incompletely known. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Statins, Lipids, and Mutations: Consequences for the Heart and Immune System

    Författare :Emil G. Ivarsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CAAX Proteins; Statins; RHO Proteins; Dilated Cardiomyopathy;

    Sammanfattning : CAAX proteins are a group of proteins that undergo a three-step protein maturation process that renders the proteins carboxyl-terminus hydrophobic and prone to localize to cellular membranes, where they have their primary function. The first step in this process is called prenylation, which is the covalent attachment of a lipid, either a 15-carbon farnesyl or a 20-carbon geranylgeranyl lipid, to the carboxyl-terminal cysteine residue by the enzymes farnesyltransferase (FTase) and geranylgeranyltransferase type I (GGTase-I), respectively. 5. 10. Cervical and intra-amniotic markers of preterm birth and infection

    Författare :Rose-Marie Holst; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :spontaneous preterm delivery; intra-amnioti infection inflammation; preterm labor; inflammatory proteins; preterm prelabor rupture of membranes; histological chorioamnionitis; cervical and amniotic markers;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract Background: Preterm delivery (PTD; < 37 gestational weeks), is one of the greatest unsolved obstetrical problems worldwide. As much as 80% of the perinatal mortality and 50% of the long-term neurological handicaps are associated with PTD. Spontaneous preterm birth (SPTD), i.e. LÄS MER
