  1. 1. Infective Endocarditis : aspects of pathophysiology, epidemiology, management and prognosis

    Författare :Christer Ekdahl; Rolf Maller; Mats Broqvist; Urban Forsum; Lennart E. Nilsson; Rune Andersson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; epidemiology; Infective endocarditis IE ; heart valve surgery; monocytes; granulocytes; staphylococ; Epidemiology; Epidemiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Infective endocarditis (IE) is a rare but complex disease that is fatal if untreated. With a modern combination of antimicrobial therapy and heart valve surgery, mortality is still 10-20 %. The structure of the endocarditis vegetation impedes the penetration of phagocytic cells such as monocytes and granulocytes. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Cerebral complications in infective endocarditis

    Författare :Ulrika Snygg-Martin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :infective endocarditis IE ; cerebral embolism; cerebrovascular complications; antiplatelet therapy; anticoagulation; warfarin; vegetation; Staphylococcus aureus; mortality;

    Sammanfattning : Infective endocarditis (IE) is a life-threatening disease. Cerebral embolization complicates the course in 10-40% of IE episodes. Aims of study were to investigate the frequency of cerebrovascular complications (CVC) in left-sided IE and the influence of protective and risk factors with focus on antiplatelet and anticoagulant therapy. 3. 3. Aspects of infective endocarditis. Molecules, microbiology, management, and more

    Författare :Torgny Sunnerhagen; Infektionsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endocarditis; Bacteremia; Aerococcus; Streptococcus; Abiotrophia; Gemella; Granulicatella;

    Sammanfattning : AbstractEndocarditis, or heart valve infection, can be caused by a number of pathogens, many of which are Gram-positive bacteria. The diagnosis is based on imaging techniques such as echocardiography and on blood culture. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Blood Culture Negative Endocarditis

    Författare :Maria Werner; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Infective endocarditis IE ; Blood culture negative endocarditis CNE ; Blood culture; Diagnosis; Mortality; Bartonella; Coxiella burnetii; Chlamydophila pneumoniae; Prevalence; Aminoglycoside;

    Sammanfattning : The lethal disease infective endocarditis (IE) is caused by microorganisms that attack heart valves. Early diagnosis and identification of the causative agents are important for the choice of treatment. Optimal treatment may be difficult to achieve if blood culture negative endocarditis (CNE) is present. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Impact of Surgical Techniques Used for Mitral Valve Repair on Hemodynamic Performance

    Författare :Sigurdur Ragnarsson; Thoraxkirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mitral valve repair; artificial chordae; outcome; right ventricular function; infective endocarditis; mitral valve repair; artificial chordae; right ventricular function; outcome; infective endocarditis;

    Sammanfattning : AbstractBackground Mitral regurgitation (MR) has many etiologies; the most common is degenerative disease. If not corrected, severe MR may cause left and right ventricular heart failure. Mitral valve (MV) repair is the gold standard for treatment of MR. LÄS MER
