1. Assessment of shear and energy‐absorption capacity of reinforced concrete elements under impulsive loads
Sammanfattning : Impulsive loads have been observed to cause brittle shear failure in reinforced concrete elements designed for ductile failure modes under static loads. Brittle failure modes exhibit poorer energy absorption capabilities compared to ductile flexural failure modes due to their limited deformation capacity, leading to premature failure. LÄS MER
2. Impact damping and airplane towing : two studies of the response of solid bodies to transient loads
Sammanfattning : The impact of a linearly elastic hammer on a linearly viscoelastic plate is the first problem considered in this thesis. The results, obtained by using the Laplace transformation method, can be used in the design of impact protection devices. LÄS MER

4. Mathematical Modeling of the Muscle Effects on the Human Body Responses under Transient Loads - Example of the Head-Neck Complex
Sammanfattning : The goal of this study was to develop and apply a method that overcomes limitations of the currently available solutions for finite-element modeling of skeletal muscles and their effects on dynamic responses of the human body under transient loads. One of such limitations is that finite element codes commercially available in the field impact biomechanics do not contain any specific procedures for simulation of skeletal muscles. LÄS MER
5. Mathematical Simulation of Vehicle-Pedestrian Collisions: Influence of Vehicle Impact Speed and Front-End Structure on the Dynamic Responses of Child and Adult Pedestrians
Sammanfattning : The development of effective countermeasures for pedestrian protection requires an understanding of how the impact speed and front-end design of the vehicle influence the injury risks of pedestrians. Because of the high involvement of children in pedestrian accidents, there is also a need for child pedestrian mathematical models. LÄS MER
