  1. 1. Effects of Complement Opsonization of HIV on Dendritic Cells : and Implications for the Immune Response

    Författare :Rada Ellegård; Marie Larsson; Jorma Hinkula; Johan D Söderholm; William Paxton; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; HIV; dendritic cells; complement; innate immune response; TLR signaling; T cell activation; NK cells; inflammation; antiviral response; immune evasion;

    Sammanfattning : Dendritic cells are key players during HIV pathogenesis, and shape both the immediate immune response at the site of infection as well as directing the adaptive immune response against the virus. HIV has developed a plethora of immune evasion mechanisms that hijack dendritic cell functions, suppressing their ability to mount an accurate immune response and exploiting them for efficient viral transfer to target T cells. 2. 2. The interplay between Giardia intestinalis and host intestinal epithelial cells : A tale of immune activation and suppression

    Författare :Jana Grüttner; Staffan Svärd; Mikael E. Sellin; Steven Singer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Giardia; diarrhea; RNAseq; proteomics; small intestinal epithelial cells; enteroids; organoids; protozoan; differentiation; immune response; host-parasite interaction; swimming; Biologi med inriktning mot mikrobiologi; Biology with specialization in Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : Giardia intestinalis is a non-invasive, protozoan parasite causing the diarrheal disease giardiasis in a variety of mammals, including humans. The parasite has two main life cycle stages; disease-causing trophozoites and infectious cysts. Trophozoites colonize the host’s upper small intestine by attaching to intestinal epithelial cells (IECs). G. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Spatial immune analyses in clinical cancer tissue

    Författare :Max Backman; Patrick Micke; Fredrik Pontén; Johan Botling; Kurt Schalper; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; immune landscape; non-small cell lung cancer; immune cells; multiplex immunofluorescence; spatial analysis; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Cancer is a leading cause of premature death and lung cancer is the deadliest cancer type, with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) representing 85% of lung cancer cases. Despite promising development in cancer treatment in recent decades, overall prognosis is poor. LÄS MER

  4. 4. On the Immune Regulation of Bone Response to Biomaterials

    Författare :Ricardo Trindade; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biomaterial; Immune System; Osseointegration; Foreign body reaction; Immune modulation; Titanium; Copper; Polyether ether ketone; PEEK;

    Sammanfattning : Osseointegration is the biological basis for bone anchorage of oral implants, and revolu-tionized the replacement of lost teeth. It is also applied in bone anchored hearing aids and limb replacement in amputees. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Host-Pathogen Responses during Giardia infections

    Författare :Emma Ringqvist; Staffan Svärd; Patricia Johnson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Giardia; parasite infection; host-parasite releationship; immune activation; virulence factor; immune evasion; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Microbiology; Mikrobiologi; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : Giardia lamblia is a eukaryotic parasite of the upper small intestine of humans and animals. The infecting trophozoite cells do not invade the epithelium lining of the intestine, but attach to the brush border surface in the intestinal lumen. The giardiasis disease in humans is highly variable. LÄS MER
