  1. 1. Choroidal neovascularization (CNV) : Clinical and experimental aspects

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, -

    Författare :Lennart Berglin; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2002]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CNV; angiogenesis; age-related macular degeneration; AMD; aging; surgery; endothelial cells; VEGF; MMP; TIMP; MMP-2; immunohistochemistry; ECM; RPE; Bruch s membrane; wound healing; inflammation; macrophages; in-situ hybridization; mRNA; immature vessels; MMP-9; TIMP- 3; MMP-2 deficiency;

    Sammanfattning : This work comprises different aspects of choroidal neovacularization (CNV); a leading cause of visual loss in the aged. It is an example of angiogenesis and a complication of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) The purpose was to study if patient age influences outcome of CNV surgery, to characterize the cellular content of CNV, to analyze the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and various matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) and their inhibitors (TIMP) in CNV and to study if MMP-2 influences experimental CNV growth. 2. 2. Factors influencing the turnover of olfactory receptor neurons

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Department of Neuroscience

    Författare :Maja-Lena Deckner; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2001]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; immunohistochemistry; in situ hybridization; rat; olfactory bulb; olfactory epithelium; axotomy; regeneration; apoptosis; BBB; VEGF; blood vessels; trophic factor; BDNF; trkB; tenascin;

    Sammanfattning : The olfactory system has a striking capacity for neuronal plasticity throughout life and the olfactory epithelium is able to generate both neuronal and non-neuronal cells in the normal adult animal as well as after experimental injury. In contrast to primary sensory neurons, olfactory axons are able to cross the border between the PNS and CNS in the olfactory bulb after transection in the adult animal. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Molecular Regulation of Inflammation and Angiogenesis in the Tumor Microenvironment

    Detta är en avhandling från Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Författare :Lothar Dieterich; Uppsala universitet.; [2011]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; stroma; glioma; alphaB-crystallin; HSPB5; cryab; myeloid cells; MEDICINE Morphology; cell biology; pathology; MEDICIN Morfologi; cellbiologi; patologi; NATURAL SCIENCES Biology Cell and molecular biology; NATURVETENSKAP Biologi Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Molekylär medicin; Molecular Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Tumor growth and progression not only depend on properties of the malignant cells but are strongly influenced by the tumor microenvironment. The tumor stroma consists of various cell types such as inflammatory cells, endothelial cells and fibroblasts, which can either inhibit or promote tumor growth. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Hypoxia-Inducible Factors in Tumor Cell Differentiation and Tumor Vascularization

    Detta är en avhandling från Lund University

    Författare :Alexander Pietras; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2010]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; HIF-2alpha; cancer; notch; angiogenesis; tumor-initiating cells; hypoxia; neuroblastoma; differentiation;

    Sammanfattning : Mammalian cells, including tumor cells, adapt to hypoxia via stabilization of two transcription factors - Hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-1alpha and HIF-2alpha. Among other consequences, hypoxia is a main driving force behind angiogenesis. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Endothelial activation and inflammation in the tumor microenvironment

    Detta är en avhandling från Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Författare :Hua Huang; Uppsala universitet.; [2015]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; tumor angiogenesis; endothelial activation; leukocyte recruitment; VEGF-A; αB-crystallin; ELTD1;

    Sammanfattning : Tumors are composed not only of malignant cells, but also of various types of normal cells, including vascular cells and infiltrating immune cells, which drive tumor development and progression. The tumor vasculature is abnormal and dysfunctional due to sustained tumor angiogenesis driven by high levels of pro-angiogenic factors. LÄS MER
