  1. 1. Hydrophobic interactions of serpins

    Författare :Sabina Janciauskiene; Enheten för kroniska inflammatoriska och degenerativa sjukdomar; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Proteiner; enzymology; polymerization.; Proteins; conformational polymorphism; hydrophobic interaction; amyloid fibrils; Alzheimer`s peptide Ab; alpha-1-antichymotrypsin; C-terminal peptide; lithocholic acid; cholesterol; Key words: alpha-1-antitrypsin; bile acids; enzymologi;

    Sammanfattning : The proteins of the serpin family are primarily but not exclusively proteinase inhibitors, which share a common, similar structure. It is known that this structure undergoes major conformational changes upon cleavage in the serpin reactive site loop, and that these changes include rearrangements within the hydrophobic core of the molecule. 2. 2. Intra- and intermolecular interactions in proteins : Studies of marginally hydrophobic transmembrane alpha-helices and protein-protein interactions

    Författare :Linnea E Hedin; Arne Elofsson; Susana Cristobal; Ismael Mingarro; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; membrane proteins; membrane insertion; marginally hydrophobic helix; hydrophobicity; protein-protein interactions; LacY; GltPh; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Most of the processes in a living cell are carried out by proteins. Depending on the needs of the cell, different proteins will interact and form the molecular machines demanded for the moment. LÄS MER

  3. 3. DNA strand exchange and hydrophobic interactions between biomolecules

    Författare :Bobo Feng; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ATP synthase; DNA; membrane proteins; linear dichroism; Hydrophobic interactions; self-assembly; strand exchange; nanotechnology; liposomes;

    Sammanfattning : The role of hydrophobic interactions in DNA strand exchange has been studied using fluorescence-labeled DNA oligomers in a FRET assay. Strand exchange was found to be accelerated in the presence of polyethylene glycol, which provides a crowded and hydrophobic environment possibly mimicking that of the catalytically active recombinase-DNA complexes. 4. 4. Surface interactions and adsorbate structures : An atomic force microscopy study

    Författare :Goran Bogdanovic; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :atomic force microscope; AFM; cantilever calibration; colloidal probe; surface force; force curve; friciton; hydrophobic; adhesion; roughness; multilayer; silica; cellulose; cationic polyelectrolyte; MAPTAC;

    Sammanfattning : Atomic force microscopy, AFM, was used for studying somecurrent topics in the field of surface and colloid science. Themain topics addressed in this thesis were: the nature of thelong-range attraction between hydrophobic surfaces; slidingfriction behavior for microscopic contacts; and interfacialstructuring of polyelectrolyte-nanoparticle multilayerfilms.
