  1. 11. The oxidative stress response of Francisella tularensis

    Författare :Marie Honn; Anders Sjöstedt; Helena Lindgren; Andres Melendez; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Francisella tularensis; FupA; MglA; OxyR; ROS; oxidative stress; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Francisella tularensis is capable of infecting numerous cell types, including professional phagocytes. Upon phagocytosis, F. tularensis resides within the phagosome before escaping into the cytosol to replicate. Phagocytes constitute a hostile environment rich in ROS, which are employed as a means of killing pathogens. LÄS MER

  2. 12. The plasticity and geography of host use and the diversification of butterflies

    Författare :Jessica Slove Davidson; Niklas Janz; Tommi Nyman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nymphalidae; host range; phylogeny; distribution; latitude; phylogeography; local specialisation; colonisation; host shift; polyphagy; speciation; diversification; zoologisk ekologi; Animal Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : Our world is changing rapidly and factors like urbanisation, changed agricultural practices and climate change are causing losses in butterfly diversity. It is therefore of importance to understand the source of their diversity. LÄS MER

  3. 13. All Roads Lead to the Non-Coding RNome : Evolution of Multicellularity and Host Response to Bacterial Infection

    Författare :Jonas Kjellin; Fredrik Söderbom; Jonathan Chubb; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ncRNA; Dictyostelia; miRNA; Class I RNA; host-pathogen interaction; Biologi med inriktning mot mikrobiologi; Biology with specialization in Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : The ability to control gene expression is fundamental for all living organisms. Therefore, a large variety of regulatory mechanisms exist in each cell which are essential for e.g. developmental processes and to quickly adapt to different cellular stresses such as infection. 4. 14. Persistent Helicobacter pylori infection and host response

    Författare :Sönke Andres; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Helicobacter pylori persistently colonizes the gastric mucosa of approximately one half of the world's population. Colonization always leads to chronic gastric inflammation, which may progress to peptic ulcer disease, gastric cancer or MALT lymphoma. The nature of H. pylori infection is determined by bacterial, host and environmental factors. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Escherichia coli Fimbriae, Bacterial Persistence and Host Response Induction in the Human Urinary Tract

    Författare :Göran Bergsten; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mykologi; virologi; bakteriologi; Mikrobiologi; mycology; virology; bacteriology; Microbiology; IL-8; IL-6; neutrophils; GFP; mucosal host response; Type 1 fimbriae; P fimbriae; adherence; virulence factors; regulation; deliberate colonisation; Escherichia coli 83972; Urinary tract infection; asymptomatic bacteriuria;

    Sammanfattning : Urinary tract infections (UTI) are among the most common bacterial infections in humans. Symptomatic UTIs may be acute, recurrent or chronic but the most frequent form of UTI is asymptomatic bacteruria (ABU). In ABU, the mucosa remains inert, despite the presence of large bacterial numbers in urine. LÄS MER
