1. Identification of novel growth hormone-regulated factors
Sammanfattning : The studies described in this thesis aimed to identify novel factors involved in the regulation of longitudinal growth and bone mineralization in response to growth hormone (GH) treatment. This was done by performing a single factor study (Paper I) where it was found that growth response was negatively correlated with adiponectin levels during the first year of GH treatment in short prepubertal children. 2. Prediction Models and Pharmacogenomics in Adult Growth Hormone Deficiency
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to study clinical and genetic factors that influence response to growth hormone replacement therapy (GHRT) in GH deficient (GHD) adults. The patients were part of a cohort of adults with hypopituitarism and severe GHD who were studied before and after 12 months of GHRT. LÄS MER
3. Long-term effects of growth hormone replacement therapy in growth hormone deficient adults
Sammanfattning : Deficiency of growth hormone (GHD) in adults results in abnormal body composition, reduced bone mass and muscle strength, deteriorated cardiovascular risk factors. Short-term GH replacement reverses many of the symptoms associated with adult GHD. LÄS MER
4. Long-term effects of growth hormone replacement in hypopituitary adults on body composition, bone mass and cardiovascular risk factors
Sammanfattning : Growth hormone (GH) deficient (GHD) adults have decreased bone mass and muscle strength, impaired body composition, disturbed serum lipid pattern and increased morbidity and mortality in cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. GH replacement normalizes most of these aberrations within the first year of treatment. LÄS MER
5. Growth Hormone and Gender. Studies in Healthy Adults and in Patients with Growth Hormone Disorders
Sammanfattning : The use of a new, more sensitive immunoassay for growth hormone (GH) revealed that the serum levels in men were lower than expected in sera drawn ambulatory in the morning after an overnight fast and that the gender difference was more than 10 times greater than reported. These observations led to a more thorough study on the impact of gender and sex steroids on the levels of GH and other hormones in ambulatory morning samples and over a 24-hour period. LÄS MER
