1. Polymer Gels: Modeling the Swelling Behavior
Sammanfattning : This thesis is concerned with the swelling behavior of polyelectrolyte gels. The thesis can be divided into two parts. Part one deals with the modeling and computer simulation of the gel swelling. LÄS MER
2. Swelling of Cellulose Fibrillar Matrices and Gels
Sammanfattning : One of the major challenges of today´s society is to find a sustainable way to create a living based on the resources on earth. It is a challenge that includes a transition from fossil-based materials to renewable/biodegradable raw materials and also the creation of an environmentally friendly circular material flow. LÄS MER
3. Heterogeneities in polymer gels: Effects on swelling and mechanical properties
Sammanfattning : Polymeric hydrogels is a class of scientifically interesting materials that are being extensively studied. They are found in numerous applications within; drug delivery, hygiene products, food industry, analytical chemistry, etc. In addition, polymeric hydrogels have promising future applications as; cell scaffolds, implants, sensors, etc. LÄS MER
4. On the Structure and Dynamics of Polyelectrolyte Gel Systems and Gel-surfactant Complexes
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the results of experimental work on polyelectrolyte gels and their interaction with oppositely charged surfactants, and presents two new algorithms applicable to the simulation of colloid and polymer systems. The model systems investigated were crosslinked poly(acrylate) (PA) and poly(styrene sulphonate) (PSS), and the surfactant was dodecyl trimethylammonium bromide (DoTAB). 5. Phase Phenomena in Polymer Networks : Empirical Studies on the Influence of Hydrophobicity, Charge Density and Crosslinks on Macroion-Induced Phase Transitions in Polyelectrolyte Gels
Sammanfattning : The thesis concerns polyelectrolyte gels in contact with oppositely charged proteins and surfactant micelles, and includes of four papers (I-IV). In paper I confocal Raman spectroscopy was introduced as a method to trace micelles and investigate the structure of gel-surfactant complexes, in phase separated gel spheres. LÄS MER
