  1. 1. Fuel choice, fuel switching and improved cook stoves in Vietnamese households: Analysis, models and proposals for new solutions

    Författare :Niklas Vahlne; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; fuel choice; fuel ladder; cooking; Vietnam; developing; improved stoves; rural households;

    Sammanfattning : A majority of rural households in the developing world use solid biomass fuels for cooking. This use has severe negative health effects, is often either expensive or time consuming, and contributes to global warming. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Modeling rural Vietnamese households' use of cooking fuels

    Författare :Niklas Vahlne; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; fuel switching; rural households; developing; cooking; fuel ladder; improved stoves; Vietnam;

    Sammanfattning : AbstractA majority of rural households in the developing world still use solid biomass fuels for cooking, which has severe negative health effects, may be expensive, time consuming, and contributes to global warming. Options for interventions aimed at improving the energy situation for households include the dissemination of improved cook stoves (ICSs), increase of households possibilities to switch to more modern fuels, for example through subsidies for LPG, as well as increase of the rate of electrification. 3. 3. Volumetric combustion of torrefied biomass for large percentage biomass co-firing up to 100% fuel switch

    Författare :Jun Li; Weihong Yang; Günter Scheffknecht; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biomass; co-firing; torrefaction; torrefaction degree; kinetics; volumetric combustion; fuel switch;

    Sammanfattning : The co-firing of biomass and coal plays an important role in increasing the biomass power capacity and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The challenges of the large percentage biomass co-firing (over 20% on energy basis) in existing pulverized coal boilers are keeping the same steam parameters and having a high boiler efficiency and a stable operating. 4. 4. Advanced Gasification of Biomass/Waste for Substitution of Fossil Fuels in Steel Industry Heat Treatment Furnaces

    Författare :Duleeka Gunarathne; Weihong Yang; Wlodzimierz Blasiak; Tobias Richards; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biomass; Pretreatment; Gasification; Pressure drop; Steel industry; Fuel switch; Energy efficiency; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : With the current trend of CO2 mitigation in process industries, the primary goal of this thesis is to promote biomass as an energy and reduction agent source to substitute fossil sources in the steel industry. The criteria for this substitution are that the steel process retains the same function and the integrated energy efficiency is as high as possible. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Alternative Combustion Strategies for Gasoline Engines

    Författare :Daniel Dahl; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; engines; SI; SGDI; CAI; HCCI; Otto; lean burn; gasoline; combustion; fuel consumption;

    Sammanfattning : Due to increasingly strict legislative demands and customer concerns regarding CO2emissions, there is a need to develop and implement new combustion strategies forgasoline (Otto) engines. In attempts to meet this need, most attention is focusing onthe low load/speed range where the classic spark ignition strategy (SI) has poorefficiency, mainly due to the throttling of the intake air causing pumping losses.
