  1. 1. Vitamin B12 and folate depletion in the elderly. Diagnosis, clinical correlates and causes

    Författare :Catharina Lewerin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; aged; methylmalonic acid; homocysteine; vitamin B12; folic acid; renal function; cognition; movement; atrophic gastritis;

    Sammanfattning : Subclinical vitamin B12 and folate deficiency is common in the elderly. The clinical significance remains unresolved. There is not a universally accepted set of laboratory criteria for diagnosis, however subclinical deficiency is important to diagnose since it is easy to treat. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Teratogenicity Involved in Experimental Diabetic Pregnancy

    Författare :Mattias Gäreskog; Parri Wentzel; Ulf Eriksson; Jonas Cederberg; Kari Teramo; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Cell biology; Diabetes; Pregnancy; PKC; Apoptosis; Rat; Embryopathy; Vitamin E; Folic acid; CHC; NAC; Cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Maternal diabetes is associated with increased risk of growth disturbances and congenital malformations. The malformations rate in the offspring of diabetic mothers is 2-3 fold higher compared to infants of nondiabetic mothers. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The effect on chromosomal stability of some dietary constituents

    Författare :Louise Durling; Per Eriksson; Jan Alexander; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Biology; Genotoxicity; chromosomal stability; heterocyclic amines; furan; HMF; folic acid; micronucleus test; comet assay; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : When food is heated, a vast number of compounds are formed. Some of these are known to be toxic. Among these are furan, HMF, PhIP, IQ, and MeIQx, the subjects of this thesis. All these compounds are known or suspected carcinogens but the detailed mechanisms behind their carcinogenicity have not yet been fully examined. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Fetal Outcome in Experimental Diabetic Pregnancy

    Författare :Sheller Zabihi; Ulf Eriksson; Michael Welsh; Elisabeth (Lisa) Persson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Cell biology; Rat; Mouse; TG; KO; Diabetes in Pregnancy; Embryo; Folic acid; Superoxide dismutase; Catalase; Glutathione peroxidase; Vascular endothelial growth factor-A; Folate binding protein-1; Bax; Bcl-2; Caspase-3; P53; Pax-3; Blood flow; Cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Women with pregestational diabetes have a 2-5 fold increased risk of giving birth to malformed babies compared with non-diabetic women. Diabetes-induced oxidative stress in maternal and embryonic tissues has been implicated in the teratogenic process. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Yolk sac morphology and uterine blood flow are associated with fetal outcome in diabetes pregnancy

    Författare :Sheller Zabihi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Diabetes; yolk sac; embryo; gene expression; blood flow; folic acid; SOD; apoptosis;

    Sammanfattning : Women with pregestational diabetes have a 3-5 times increased risk of giving birth to malformed babies compared with non-diabetic women. The malformations are likely to be induced before the seventh week of pregnancy, when the yolk sac is partly responsible for the transfer of metabolites to the embryo, and the uterine blood flow to the implantation site determines the net amount of nutrients available to the conceptus.
